Movies: 'X-Men' franchise mutates into a pack of solo films

The X-Men mutants plan to divide and conquer.

After last weekend's four-day, $122.9 million debut of X-Men: The Last Stand, the third film in the Marvel Comics series, producers are devising ways to launch some characters into their own franchises.

The first spinoff will be Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. His character has an as-yet-unrevealed back story in which researchers replaced his original bones with a metal skeleton. Jackman has signed on to star and co-produce, and X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner says it will likely head into production next year.

"We've also talked about doing something on the kids in (Professor X's) school, focusing on their lives, and less of a global adventure for the team," says Hutch Parker, production president of 20th Century Fox.

The studio is also exploring a movie with Three Kings director David O. Russell based on the character of Emma Frost, a sexy mutant telepath who can transform her skin into diamonds. She is an X-Men comics regular but was not featured in the movies.

Did you catch X-men 1? Storm had an accent there and was obviously very African. It disappeared in part 2, as did all my hope for a decent trilogy.

yeah, i agree about the characters being very different from the comics... i even forgot that Juggernaut was Xavier's brother.. hahaha. But it was still a very fun movie to watch and Magneto kicked ass! Phoenix' power was great too but was a little bit over the top for me to appreciate.
And i didn't notice Halle Berry did an African accent in Xmen 1... hehe. maybe i'll check it out.

just watched the movie LFS @ SM cinema 8 tonight..

the story was good but i just found the acting very lousy(especially the part of the president)
and a lot of "cuts"...mura man ug "tagalog" nga salida, wherein n d middle of an action scene kalit lang ug cut..

layo ra kaau sa xmen 1 & 2 which was directed by Brian Singer...

as an xmen fan im very disappointed with the movie..

or maybe i just had very high expectations with the last sequel...

Singer is a master of filmmaking as his roots are in adult suspense and film noir..... In contrast Ratner has directed the mediocre Rush Hour films ....

I wished Fox would have waited for Singer to complete Superman Returns, but as it is the trilogy finale has been compromised with lesser quality because of a less-skilled director and writing team...

But let's cheer up since Singer's latest superhero rendition is coming this month or July.... and he will return to his crime/suspense genre next year...

I dunno, i'm kind of disappointed sa movie,

    fanboy man sad ko.

I was excited to hear that Psylocke was in the movie, pero gi atot, duha ra iya linya. maski mugamit lang in tawn ug PSY BLADE, wa gyud! unya dead dayun cya.

I was also waiting for the Phoenix to go berserk, with the FIREBIRD MANIFESTATION!!!
C'mon, at least throw in the FAN SERVICE of the PHOENIX!! but jean was just like so EMMOOO...
"No one understands me!! everybody wants to control meeeee!!!"

the leech character was only a stand-in, so with ANgel.

ang ICEMAN Vs. PYRO battle, bati-a oi.
Murag ga Dragon Ball sila, POWER BEAMS TUG-OF-WAR
    unya poof! dead si Pyro.

basta, kinda disappointed ko sa 3, mas ganahan ko sa 2 kay mas na utilize well and characters ug story. unya mas cool and creative pagka gamit ila abilites and battles sa 2.
