THE Southwestern University Cobras masterfully rose from the grave to surprise the heavily-favored University of the Visayas Green Lancers, 71-67, in their second encounter of the 2011 Cesafi collegiate basketball at the Cebu Coliseum last Sunday.
UV outsmarted and outclassed SWU in the first two quarters, blasting them in almost all departments and finishing the first half with a 35-26 lead. The Cobras went to the dugouts with heads bent.

However, head coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba must have weaved his magic on his team as it was a different group of Cobras who came out of the locker room in the second half. This time, they looked all ready to jump in and pound the Lancers.
Behind the all-around offensive exploits of Bonifacio Guillena Jr. plus the hardcourt leadership of Eleazar Armecin and the commanding presence of Justin Aboude inside the paint, SWU started a fiery comeback to keep UV’s scorers at bay and to slowly slice UV’s lead.
With the momentum on their side, the Cobras entered the final quarter taking the lead for the first time, 54-53, following Armecin's triple and Aboude's follow-up shot in the 8:44 mark in the final period.
Three lead changes and two deadlocks ensued before the Cobras finally broke the Lancers’ defenses, while holding them without a field goal in the last five minutes.
Both teams now share an identical 8-3 slate and are still fighting for second place—the last slot that stake a twice-to-beat edge in the next round.
Should SWU win its next assignment against the University of Cebu this Thursday, it will get the second place.
But if UV wins today against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation and SWU
loses on Thursday, UV will get the No. 2 spot.
SWU (71) – Guillena 22, Armecin 19, Aboude 13, Pacquiao 11, Nalos 4, Ortuyo 2.
