Mavs recall similar start, sad finish
Game 2 will be a crucial game for the Mavs.. karon palang, gikulba.an nko! lolz.. paminaw nko kung mapildi mi sa Game 2, yayay nami ani nga series! waaaaaaaah...DALLAS -- Last year the Dallas Mavericks opened the first round of the playoffs with a 100-94 win at home over the San Antonio Spurs.
Then the Mavericks lost Game 2 at home, 102-88, and ultimately lost all three games in San Antonio and the series in six games. Thus, it didn't take long for coach Rick Carlisle to have that big-boy talk with his team about what happened about this time last year.
"We talked about that," point guard Jason Kidd said. "That was the first thing that Coach talked about before we watched film is that we've been in this situation before and we were mentally not ready to play Game 2 [against the Spurs], and we lost that game.
"So that's something we can draw back from and use from past experience that Portland is going to come in and try to get a split."
Let's Go Mavs!
Tyson Chandler is third in Defensive POY votes for best Mavs finish
This has to be considered progress in Maverick nation.
Not sure when the last time they had a player finish in the top three of defensive player of the year voting, but Tyson Chandler was tabbed third by the panel of 119 media members nationwide.
I have to confess he did it without any help from the Mavericks' beat writer for The Dallas Morning News.
He wasn't in my top 3.
But the point is that he finished third behind runaway winner Dwight Howard of Orlando and Boston's Kevin Garnett, who nosed out Chandler for second.
Chandler indeed has been the key figure in the Mavericks gaining a foothold defensively this season. They finished in the top 10 in points per possession.

Congrats Tyson..
Dirk wants lead heading to Portland
DALLAS -- Dirk Nowitzki is the leader of the Western Conference's best road team. He has no desire to go to Portland with the series all tied up.
"This win means nothing if you lose Game 2," Nowitzki said. "That's what we did last year here."
The Dallas Mavericks lost Game 2 at home to the Spurs after a Game 1 win and never recovered, losing in six.
Tuesday's Game 2 winner will seize the series momentum. If Dallas can assert a some muscle and defend the home court, it would require Portland to win four times in five games. A loss and the entirety of the series shifts with it to the Pacific Northwest and inside the raucous Rose Garden for Games 3 and 4.
"As we know, they’re very, very good at home," Nowitzki said. "They’re one of the best home teams we have in this league. Their fans are phenomenal, so we’d love to go up there leading 2-0."
The Trail Blazers went 30-11 at home, tied for third best in the West with the Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder. The Mavs and Miami Heat led the NBA with 28 road wins. A sweep at home, a split on the road, a chance to win at home in 5 is the Mavs' mindset.
To get to there, it will take a victory here in Game 2.
"I really like our energy right now, the way we’re focused in practice, the way we’re executing, the way we’re paying attention to detail," Mavs center Tyson Chandler said. "I see something different. It’s the same way we were approaching training camp and that’s the mentality that you really have to have."
