Pampanga Buddies too much for Zambo Amores
CEBU City— The Pampanga Buddies showed too much firepower against the Zamboanga Amores in a record-breaking 119-60 win at the start of week 5 of the Liga Pilipinas Tour elimination phase at the New Cebu Coliseum here.
The Smart-backed Buddies displayed a solid game from start to finish on their way to establishing several new Liga Pilipinas records.
The Buddies’ total output of 119 is now a new meet mark (highest point production) and so did their 34 assists, 54 rebounds, 50 fastbreak points and 32 points off turnovers.
Their 14-of-38 shooting from three-point range is also the second best in the fledgling league.
In the night cap, the M.Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-backed Cebu Niños forced the Trace Laguna Stallions to commit 18 turnovers which they used as springboard in scoring a runaway 90-69 victory.
Frustrated in its hunt for a second leg title two weeks ago, the Buddies made a strong statement right at the start of the Cebu leg as six of their players finished in double digits, led by the 14 of Khiel Misa.
Over at the Quezon Convention Center in Quezon, Baguio edged out Ilocos Sur, 76-68, to open the Quezon leg of the meet.
Later in the night, the host team opened its campaign with a big 85-73 overtime victory over the Misamis Oriental Meteors.
Mark Magsumbol, Ramsey Williams and Kim Macanig keyed a telling 8-0 run in the extra period to power the Red Oilers to the win.
