Steve Nash confirms this will be his last NBA season:

“I think this is my last season,” said the 40-year-old Nash in a video posted by Sport TV. But I still love to play, practice and work on my game. I’m going to spend hopefully many many years living this life without basketball. It’ll be nice to play one more year.”

Nash’s fledgling health marks one of the many reasons why the Lakers are expected to have a lengthy rebuilding process with another likely missed playoff appearance.

“They’re waiting to see which free agents are available next summer and the summer after, to be honest.” Nash said of the Lakers’ rebuilding strategy. It’s a cyclical league and sometimes you have to go down to come back up. Right now, the Lakers are down and it takes time. I don’t know if we’re going to have a chance this year or not. But obviously in the future, they’ll be back where they have been many times.”

As a Fan of the Lakers since the 80s , I agree

Scott seems to have a plan. First, he knows the Lakers must focus on defense. Second, according to ESPNS’s Ramona Shelburne, he and Kobe have to teach an important lesson to these young Lakers.

In this situation, where it’s just Kobe — who really understands what it means to be a Laker — and myself, who understands what it means to be a Laker — you’ve got two guys coming from two different perspectives, but delivering the same message. That’s important. That’s important for Swaggy P and Wesley Johnson and Ryan Kelly who need to understand what it means to put that purple and gold on.

The Lakers are unlike any other franchise in sports. Putting on that purple and gold means more than just putting on a jersey to play basketball. The Lakers franchise is a representation of class, greatness, and being the best.

Kobe has been with the franchise for 18 years and won five championships. Byron Scott played 11 seasons and won three rings himself, and served as a mentor for Kobe when he first entered the league in 1996.

This season isn’t just about returning the Lakers to former glory, it’s about restoring the Lakers franchise and brand to what it should always represent. Kobe and Scott know what that mean, and soon, the rest of the team will too.

^^ Jodie Meeks signed with the Pistons for almost 20M for 3 yrs I think. Yup, seems Byron Scott will be the 25th Coach of the Lakers.

Byron Scott is officially the Lakers Head Coach.

Scott said he's been talking to Kobe via text message. Kobe told Scott that he’d be working out with some of his teammates, but Scott hopes Kobe is stressing defense:

“He told me he was working out with Wesley [Johnson] and Nick [Young],” Scott said. “I told them that sounded great, but ‘they better be ready to play some defense.’ “
