Carlisle applauds Marion's efforts
DALLAS _ Earlier this season, Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle kept hearing questions about how Shawn Marion would react to coming off the bench.
These days that question is no longer being asked.
“I can’t overstate the importance of Shawn Marion embracing a role coming off the bench and being a guy that’s not only a scorer and a defender, but he’s been a playmaker for us, too,’’ Carlisle said after Monday’s practice. “What he’s done this year has gone very much under the radar.’’
Marion is averaging 11.5 points and 6.6 rebounds while shooting .501 percent from the field. And he’s played 27.6 minutes per game with nary a question about his playing time.
“Again, most of you guys didn’t think he could do it and were asking a lot of questions about, ‘Hey, what’s going to happen when he doesn’t want to do it?,’ ‘’ Carlisle said. “But guess what, he’s a pro.
“And what he’s done this year off the bench has been probably one of the bigger reasons that we’ve had because of the success we’ve had to this point.’’
