Tips to help YOU Lose Weight
References: “The Truth About Six Pack Abs”, www.howstuffwork.com, www.bodybuilding.com, www.about.com,

1: DRINK 8-10 GLASSES OF WATER EACH DAY
Okay, for many people this is a big problem. Water doesn't taste all that great generally because water
doesn't really "taste" like anything. Drinking water 8 to 10 times each day gets easier the more you
actually do it. It is simply a matter of conditioning your taste buds, and yourself, so that it becomes easier
to do. Once you get started, you will begin to crave water. To begin with, you should drink a glass of
water in the morning first thing, before you eat. This is probably the easiest glass you will drink all day and
it will help you remember to drink water all day long. Better yet, why not drink two glasses?

    2: EAT BREAKFAST
Do not skip breakfast. Breakfast is so important to your good health and to weight control. According to
Dr. Barbara Rolls a professor of nutrition at Penn State University, "Your metabolism slows while you
sleep, and it doesn't rev back up until you eat again." Skipping breakfast will slow down your metabolism
therefore, it will not help in losing weight. Eating breakfast is not only good for overall weight loss, it will
help you stay on track with your diet the rest of the day. You are more likely to binge on something sweet
and in the "bread" group if you skip breakfast.

3: EAT AT LEAST 3 MEALS AND 2-3 small SNACKS EACH DAY
This can be one of the hardest adjustments to make. After all, you are busy! You already have a "fullplate".
When do you have time to worry about filling your plate with more frequent meals?
Just like eating breakfast will increase your metabolism, so will eating more often. This will also help you
curb your bad-carb intake by making sure that your snacks are planned and occur regularly throughout
    the day.
But remember: Only eat when you feel hungry and always be aware of calories you consumed. Avoid
foods that are high in fat and calories. Eat a less calorie snacks that can full-fill your hungry stomach…
Avoid sweets, beverages w/ sugar; junk foods, etc. for this will not satisfy your hunger instead it just add
more excess calories to your body. Really, it will just take a minimal investment of planning time at the
grocery store and at home each morning before you head out for the day to make some healthy food
choices and prepare a few healthy snacks and meals.
4: DRINK A GLASS OF WATER AFTER EACH SNACK
This will help you get in your 8 to 10 glasses of water each day but it can also have other benefits. Ever
feel hungry after eating a handful or standard serving of nuts? Try drinking water afterwards. The water
will help you feel full and prevent overindulgence. Drinking water after a snack will also help remove the
aftertaste from your mouth and can help curb your desire for more.

5: EAT SLOWLY & ENJOY YOUR FOOD
You will feel full and more satisfied if you take the time to savor your food and chew it slower. Don't get in
the habit of eating while standing or eating quickly. Sit down and chew. Eating slower will help you enjoy
your food more, pay attention to what it is you are actually eating and get a better sense of when you are
    actually full.

6: COUNT YOUR CALORIES IN A DAY
Just how many calories do our cells need to function well? The number is different for every person.
Height, weight, gender, age and activity level all affect your caloric needs.
Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the amount of energy your body needs to function at rest. This
accounts for about 60 to 70 percent of calories burned in a day and includes the energy required to keep
the heart beating, the lungs breathing, the kidneys functioning and the body temperature stabilized. In
general, men have a higher BMR than women. One of the most accurate methods of estimating your
basal metabolic rate is the Harris-Benedict formula:
    Adult male: 66 + (6.3 x target maintenance of body weight in lbs.) + (12.9 x height in inches) - (6.8 x
    age in years)
    Adult female: 655 + (4.3 x target maintenance of body weight in lbs.) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.7
    x age in years)
The type of activity you perform and the nutrition you use will all affect this, but without the right calorie
balance, you will simply not have a net loss in fat.
FACT: YOU CAN EAT ANY KIND of FOODS but just in small amount to have balance nutrition. Our body
needs fats, sugar, carbohydrates, etc. too but an excess of it beyond our body needs is not healthy.

    7: CARDIO and WEIGHT TRAINING
First, your body has something called energy systems that are used to fuel activity.
    - Two systems are anaerobic, which means they do not use oxygen. This system is especially
important for high intensity activity such as weight training,
    - The final system, and the one that takes center stage with aerobic activity, is the oxidative system
    because, yes, it uses oxygen.
Weight training combined with diet burns more fat than weight training by itself or diet by itself
(1). Weight training combined with cardio burns more fat than cardio by itself
(2). So the best combination appears to be all three! CARDIO, WEIGHT TRAINING, and DIET!
A program that balances proper nutrition with cardio and resistance training is key to maximize fat loss.
Cardio is great for your heart; it helps to burn calories and will contribute to fat loss.
Resistance training not only burns a ton of calories when done intensely, but can actually raise
your metabolism so that you can burn additional calories even after you are done exercising! Not
only that, it stimulates muscle growth. When you lose those fats from cardio, resistance training is
important to have a firm body.

    8. DON’T BE DISCOURAGE
If you’re doing thousands of crunches and abs exercises every day to minimize the belly bulge, you won’t
see visible results unless you lose the fat first! What was really meant by that is people easily get
frustrated because they think doing crunches does the job alone and sad thing is, it doesn’t. You need to
burn that fat that covers your abs muscles. Cardiovascular exercise is the best way to burn calories. Add
resistance training to the mix and you’ll give your metabolism a boost too. Generally, men need to get
below 10-11% body fat to really start to see the abs (they really pop out at 7-8%), and women need to get
below 16-19% body fat to really bring out their abs. However, everyone will differ depending on his or her
body fat distribution. Based on individual body fat distribution, some people may need to get even leaner
than these percentages to be able to see their abs.
You can start crunches, and other abs exercises so that by the time you lose those body fats, toned abs
would show-up. But don’t expect an instant six-pack abs! You have to lose those fats to see the result of
your abs exercises! The fastest way to achieve this is CARDIO, WEIGHT TRAINING, and right DIET
    (proper nutrition).
