after using my Samsung NX10 for more than a year. here is my note on performance/speed. This currently holds true to all other mirrorless and fixed lens cameras including P&S cameras.

that the Shot-to-shot times (not burst) is generally slower than that of a DSLR. I recently noticed that when i attended a wedding as guest and tried to shoot fast with my NX10 during some parts of the ceremony, it was not as fast as i wished. Although this cam is capable of 3fps when set to burst mode.

So i went to investigate the speed of Mirroless vs DSLRs. Sony Alpha NEX-7 Compact System Camera Performance - Review
ex.
a Sony NEX7 camera can capture the next photo in as little as 0.59 seconds,
Olympus Ep3 - 0.74 s
Pana. GH2 - 0.78 s
Samsung NX10 - 0.93 s
Nikon V1 - 1.05 s
Fuji X100 - 1.18 s
Canon G12 - 2.4 s

compare that to:
Nikon D60 - 0.48 s
Nikon D7000 - 0.48 s
Nikon D300s - 0.48 s
Canon 1000D - 0.42 s
Nikon D90 - 0.36 s
Nikon D5100 - 0.77 s <-- this is a bad SLR for speed


just sharing. It might change in the future ( or maybe not to protect the DSLR offerings )

shot to shot speed may be second only to AF speed. PDAF is still faster, though with the recent pens, CDAF is almost there.. or have a hybrid AF system (nikon 1), dependent though with the sensor size, apparently. nex's are relatively slow with AF, with inconsistencies pa, esp. with christmas trees. xD

As rumored at least a year ago, Pentax wasn't only planning the diminutive Pentax Q, but a second mirrorless camera with a larger sensor. And here it is: the Pentax K-01. Said to have an upgrade of the sensor from the excellent Pentax K-5, the K-01 is also marked by a unique modern design. With a 16-megapixel sensor capable of shooting 1080p video, and body-based image stabilization, the Pentax K-01 is fairly up-to-date in the specs department. Because the K-01 uses an APS-C sensor and accepts standard K-mount lenses, the design is a lot thicker than most of the competition, as you can see in the top shot below.

The Nikon V1 and J1 are the most advanced mirrorless camera out there in terms of sensor technology. that explains the high price.
AF speed in action:
Nikon V1

On Nikon V1/J1, The AF sensors are embedded on main sensor itself. So it can do Phase detection AF without a mirror. I knew Fuji is first on this. This is the future. One day, all cameras will be mirrorless and shutterless

oh yes. though the sensor size is smaller than even than of m4/3s. so if this can be done in a bigger sensor, say aps-c, then we're talkin'.

hehe it's true the good thing is this baby is backward compatible all pentax lens with k-mount will work including those old manual lenses
