the closest you get to "yaka on the floor to eat" is at kagura on a.s. fortuna because they have a dining area where it looks like you should be sitting cross-legged on the floor but actually there's a space under the table where you can rest your feet. try there. their food is good and the ambiance/decor is nice.
try banri noodle house on crossroads. it is unassuming and no-frills but the food is really good and fresh.
and don't forget nonki, also on a.s. fortuna
for dishes to try for first timers:
katsudon (katsu=breaded pork chop & don=rice) = its breaded pork chop over rice with a soy based sauce, raw egg (which will cook from the heat of the rice and pork chop) & some onions. usually served with a miso soup. safe but good to try for those who have never tried japanese food.
california maki: its mango, cucumber, sushi rice, mayonnaise and seaweed wrap. no raw ingredients so great as your first sushi.
try the restaurant's "house" tea--usually free, either hot or cold japanese green tea
hope that encourages you to start
Sen Ryu, Teriyaki Boy, Ginza, Kagura and Mizu are great!
For starters, maybe you can try Tempura in SM or Rai Rai Ken. Try the noodles first like the yakisoba.
try yakiniku, then also the one in a.s. fortuna. if ganahan mo pang masa lang ni type UMI toppings near mactan doctors hospital ang japanese na girl gyud ang moluto.
