Jong Ill or whatever you may call him is a self-inflated idiot much in the mold of Fidel Castro, once North Koreans began losing more men then they could replace, and run out of Oil, (logistics ladies and gentlemen), and starving I think they would turn on him in a second.

Let's look at a tale of the tape in my opinion:

    N. Korea : Undertrained Pilots
Modern Migs but not kept up mechanically
No $$$ to finance war effort for longer then a few weeks
Not enough working equipment to keep solders armed.
1974 style ICBM's that couldn't hit Russia, much less a US naval Fleet.
    Oil supplies vastly overrated,
    Coastal Defense Navy only
    Same Tanks Iraq had
    Starving People
Idiot Dictator which people will abandon once war effort turns against them.
No spy satellites, can't see US troops
Can't rely on Allies to help them out, they are on thier own.

    US:
Top notch military, best training in the world
You have seen about 5% of American military might in the last 2 years.
Secret Weapons (EMP, MOAB, RAPTOR, , Laser Weapons)
Money to finance long term war effort'
Aid of South Korea, Japan, Austrailia, Spain, and Britain
    Dominant Naval Power
    Dominant Air Power
    Dominant Land Power
    Dominant Space Power
    Dominant Technology
Logistics (Food, Clothes, Oil, Gas, Windex, you name it they got it and they can get it quick)

    My take

War if ugly for about a week, then trouble hits the North Koreans in terms of a three Front War, US, Britain, SK and Japan all work together to apply pressure to North Korea. They establish air superiority in a week, beachheads in 2, Korean's begin to understand the problem, they are fighting with no oil or food, while our boys are frying t-bone's on thier ol t-72's, quit the war and go home, leaving middle Korea virtually defenseless.

This one won't last much more than Iraq, and you will see the true might of the United States in action...

hehehe, you underestimate the enemy bai... And who told you Iraq was over...? They are in the beginnings of a Civil War as we speak... That just proves that the US could not even accomplish their mission... you underestimate those 120,000 NoKor operators who will disappear into the civilians and pick off those t-bone cooking yankees without them seeing what hit them... War UGLY FOR A WEEK? heheheh, wake up bro, Iraq is getting uglier by the day and you honestly think that NoKor, a much stronger war force, would be "cooked" in a week...?

pardon me if I don't share your enthusiasm....

Oh, and about your "Money to finance long term war effort" comment, the US currently has 9 TRILLION DOLLARS debt due to the Iraq war... before iraq, it was just 3 or 4 TRILLION... hehehe after a couple more wars, the US will be vulnerable to takeover by Cuba... heheheh

I hate to sound glib, but the best way to stop Kim Jong-Il would be to threaten the destruction of the US porn film industry. He has a scary collection.

Report: N. Korean Leader Regrets Test
    By Associated Press

SEOUL, South Korea - North Korean leader Kim Jong Il expressed regret about his country's nuclear test to a Chinese delegation and said Pyongyang would return to international nuclear talks if Washington backs off a campaign to financially isolate the country, a South Korean newspaper reported Friday.

"If the U.S. makes a concession to some degree, we will also make a concession to some degree, whether it be bilateral talks or six-party talks," Kim was quoted as telling a Chinese envoy, the mass-circulation Chosun Ilbo reported, citing a diplomatic source in China.

Kim told the Chinese delegation that "he is sorry about the nuclear test," the newspaper reported.

The delegation led by State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan met Kim on Thursday and returned to Beijing later that day _ ahead of U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's arrival in the Chinese capital Friday. China is viewed as a key nation in efforts to persuade the North to disarm, as it is the isolated communist nation's main trading partner.

North Korea has long insisted that the U.S. desist from a campaign to sever its ties to the international financial system. Washington accuses Pyongyang of complicity in counterfeiting and money laundering to sell weapons of mass destruction.

The North has refused since last November to return to the nuclear talks, which also include China, Japan, Russia and South Korea. Pyongyang has sought bolster its negotiating position by a series of provocative actions, test-firing a barrage of missiles in July and performing its first-ever nuclear test Oct. 9.
