Dirk Nowitzki ^_^Commissioner's Replacement: Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks
Our final spot, to replace Yao Ming on the roster, is where the choice at power forward gets difficult. Do you reward Odom for a career year as part of an elite team? Give Randolph another nod for his combination of high usage and terrific rebounding? Credit West for his role in one of the league's top defenses and being a part of the best pick-and-pop duo around? Select Aldridge based on keeping the Blazers afloat as a go-to guy? Instead, I'm going with Nowitzki, who might just be an MVP candidate based on his importance to Dallas this season. Nowitzki has improved his True Shooting Percentage, which has slid in recent seasons, and has been as effective as anyone when healthy.

Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki: Playing in Europe a long-distance option
Since the report surfaced over the weekend from a German sports publication that Dirk Nowitzki would consider playing in Germany next season if the NBA goes through a protracted lockout, Nowitzki has done his best to calm any fears that he’s going to be sporting another professional team’s colors anytime soon.
“If it’s a long lockout, we all have to check over all our options,” Nowitzki said Tuesday. “You don’t want to lose a whole year. But that’s a long, long way away. We don’t know what’s going to happen with the collective-bargaining and even then, there are a lot of other things that go into it. This was mainly just a bunch of speculation.”
That much is true, but Nowitzki would be well within his rights to play for a pro team in Germany — or elsewhere, if he so chose — should the NBA owners lock out the players on July 1, a possibility that many observers believe is quite likely.
Even if that happens, however, the ramifications could be far reaching for players who try to play in another pro league. Complicating matters is Nowitzki’s sprained knee that he suffered in late December, which has given him a renewed outlook on keeping his body as fresh and healthy as it can be for his No. 1 goal — winning an NBA championship.

Dirk Nowitzki closes in on another milestone
NEW YORK -- Dirk Nowitzki is set to hit yet another career scoring milestone tonight. He needs 13 points to become just the 24th player in NBA history to record 22,000 points.
He'll likely do it at the most hallowed venue in the NBA, Madison Square Garden, where the Mavs face the New York Knicks and seek a sixth consecutive victory. It would rank as their second-longest of the season (12 from Nov. 20 - Dec. 11).
Nowitzki, averaging 23.1 points, passed Larry Bird and then Gary Payton in December to move up to 24th on the league's all-time scoring list. Next up is Clyde Drexler with 22,195 points. Nowitzki could possibly overtake Drexler before All-Star Weekend. He'd likely have already secured 23rd on the all-time list if Nowitzki had not missed nine games with a sprained right knee.
Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett, who the Mavs will visit Friday, ranks 22nd on the all-time scoring list with 22,852 points.
Nowitzki’s point total, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, ranks him fourth in league history among players born outside of the 50 states. The top five: Hakeem Olajuwon (26,946, born in Nigeria), Dominique Wilkins (26,668, France), Patrick Ewing(24,815, Jamaica), Nowitzki (21,987, West Germany) and Tim Duncan (21,294, Virgin Islands).

Peja Stojakovic could make Mavericks debut on Monday
Peja Stojakovic is expected to play his first game as a Maverick this season before Roddy Beaubois does, coach Rick Carlisle said before Wednesday's game against New York.
"If everything goes well, the hope is he'll play next week,'' Carlisle said of Stojakovic. "But that's if all goes well.''
Stojakovic (left knee) and Beaubois (left foot) both stayed behind on this three game road trip. Carlisle said he's hopeful that Stojakovic might play on Monday against Cleveland, the only home game before the Mavericks go back out on another three game trip.
"His workouts have to continue to go the right direction in terms of conditioning and rehab on the knee,'' Carlisle said. When asked who plays first, Beaubois or Stojakovic, he said: "Who's back first? Peja, if all goes well. Roddy's doing better, but he's not there yet.''
