personally I DONT CARE IF CEBU IS A TOP TOURIST DESTINATION OR NOT, maski pag pinaka last pana sa list ang CEBU di jud nku ikabaylo!.. g.state man gud sa TS nga G.KAUWAW niya ang CEBU if naay mo ask niya nga mga foreigner about CEBU!

^ the point is not whether we should be proud of our roots or not. The point is things can be so much better than they are today and that's something we can aspire towards. There is nothing worse than false pride, if you ask North Korean if their country is great they will tell you it's the best country in the world.

The TS also has a point, if a foreigner asks us how Cebu is, we should give them a realistic picture and not exaggerations. If you set their expectations too high then they are sure to be disappointed. When I visit another country, I expect my friends there to give me the real deal and not feed me bullshit. That kind of thing can get you killed, we need to tell tourists what they should expect, what they should avoid and how they can avoid getting screwed over.

I have to agree with the TS. I think most people hating on him/her and who believe Cebu is really a top Asian destination are people who have never left Cebu or the Philippines. At best, we are a low-tier and cheap holiday destination, that is why a lot of thrifty Korean students and tourists come here. We are 1/10th the cost of studying English in Australia, 1/2 the cost of holidaying in Maldives/Bali. That is not to say that we aren't a good destination, but in the hierarchy of destinations we are definitely not in the top, not even in the top 10 in Asia.

If we live in a vacuum where Cebu is the only tourist destination in Asia, then we'd obviously be on top. That's the problem with people who've never left Cebu and visited other Asian destinations, they are biased because they haven't seen just how much better those other places are. Cebu lacks too much in infrastructure and in reality we are not even in the same league as those other Asian destinations. You can be an idealist or a realist. I live in Cebu too but I'm not going to pretend it is something that it is not. If we are truthful about our deficiencies then we can do something to improve on them. If we keep deluding ourselves into thinking we are the best, then we will never improve. Pretending we are the best will not change the opinions of tourists who come to our island who will continue to formulate unflattering comparisons between us and other Asian destinations they've visited.

Let us hope and pray that the DPWH's 100's of billions of available funding for this year will be spent on improving our non-existent tourism infrastructure...

And the worst is we are made to believe that Cebu is the best and by advertising wrongly we get to fool foreigners as well. That doesn't sit well with me.

I totally agree with you as well. The first step to improve oneself is to accept what one is not. And it takes courage to accept the bad image. Why cant we all be courageous so that we can work together to improve Cebu?

Yes, that's one. Sinulog must be kept. But there should be better crowd control and management and security must be strengthened.

I am still proud CEBU as a TOURIST DESTINATION . All countries wether a rich nation or a 3rd world has its own share of clean and dirty places , cheap/free or expensive destinations , historical spots etc .

Base lang sa TS , he is ranting about places he cant enjoy for free and labels it as not Cebu . Well , there are lots of FREEBIES in Cebu to start with you really need to pack your things up and drive from north to south because based on your statements , you are only referring to CEBU CITY my dear . We cant justify the outcome of expectation baed only to a single tourist or a couple of foreigners because we cant pleae everyone .

Ive been to Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas , Mexico .... layo ra kaayo ang Boracay ani nila yet trust me , you dont want to go there or would think twice going there if your light skinned . By the way , stray dogs are all over the place too and entry level all the way to presidential villas are there also to enjoy depending which part of the coast you are on .

Ive been to Seychelles , SOuth Africa ... it is the French Riviera of South Africa yet the place where I was into is a clothes optional beach with luxurious amenities yet bahong langsa because nearby sa vicinity is a processing plant of tuna and salmon to be canned and mind you guys , Princess Di once had her honeymoon here with all the smell .

Ive been to Bali , Indonesia ... very nice and expensive place yet people still go there because of the nice ebaches and hospitality of the locals not until one club was bombed and mind you I was in that exact pub 3 months earlier .

Cebu is still a place we can brag about compared to other parts of the country . It is something we need not ashame of of requires no exaggeration to share what we have to offer . If we compare Cerbu to other destinations , of course it would not be in the number 1 spot but it absolutely also not to be ashamed of . Cebu indeed is one of the best .

It is hard to justify sa akong claim since subjective man kaayo ni yet at least and to the very minimum , I can compare it myself because it is a first hand experience and information compare sa some critics whom justifies everything based on the 5 star ratings , pictures of brochures etc .

Maam Gwen, I agree with your points above about the food and that tourism is not all about sights coz actually tourism appeals all the senses. And I believe to make a place a truly Top tourist destination is to provide satisfaction to all the human senses and naturally that includes the conveniences. Sadly, sa convenience olats na daan ang Cebu.

Thinking that the tag line is not a joke seems to be a complacent stand. Cebu needs to improve the soonest and thinking that it is best wont push for its development. Cebu has to recognize what she's not to improve herself.

And I agree with your point that it depends on what the tourist likes. And tourists like any of us, Cebuanos, have varied and constantly changing likes. Isn't it great if Cebu can offer amazing choices that will make tourist leave and say "Wow, that's Cebu. I'll definitely visit Cebu again!"
