Mavs grab Chandler in five-player trade

The Dallas Mavericks have been actively pursuing a trade this summer to add a quality big man into the fold and the organization did just that Tuesday afternoon.
As first reported by Yahoo! Sports, the Mavericks have acquired centers Tyson Candler and Alex Ajinca from the Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for center Erick Dampier, guard Matt Carroll, big man Eduardo Najera and cash considerations.
Following the trade, Mavericks president of basketball operations/ GM Donnie Nelson released the following statement:
“We wish Erick, Eddie and Matt nothing but the very best. They are consummate professionals that represented the Mavericks family with class and integrity. We could not be more excited to add Tyson Chandler. He is one of the most versatile big men in the league today. He gives our front line a defensive, shot-blocking, athletic punch we haven’t had here in awhile. Alexis Ajinca is a fine young center with significant upside.”
Chandler, a nine-year veteran, first believed that he would be heading to Toronto as part of a three-team trade that broke down early Tuesday.
In 2009-10 with the Bobcats, Chandler played in 51 games and averaged 6.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks while battling a stress reaction in his left foot that sidelined him for 29 games. Also spending time with Chicago and New Orleans, the 7-1, 235-pound Chandler averages 8.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 27.6 minutes for his career in 588 games (391 starts). He is expected to backup recently re-signed Brendan Haywood at the five spot.
The 22-year-old Ajinca, a 7-footer like Chandler, has played in just 37 games in his two-year career. The 20th overall pick of the Bobcats in the 2008 NBA Draft averages 2.2 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.2 blocks in 5.7 minutes for his career. -- spending time in the D-League with the Sioux Falls Skyforce (2008-09) and Maine Red Claws (2009-10), playing in 33 games and averaging 14.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, 0.6 steals and 0.4 steals in 24.9 minutes. The young big was named to the 2010 D-League Eastern Conference All-Star Team, but was unable to play due to injury.
The Mavericks have actively looked for a willing taker of Dampier's non-guaranteed $13 million contract. Sending along Carroll and Najera also frees up financial relief for the Mavericks to continue their search for available talent that can be added to the roster.

I give B+ for the Mavs on this one. Basically, they don't need Dampier's non-guaranteed contract and converted it to Tyson Chandler, a starter. Jordan's Bobcats will face a tough decision to either keep Dampier or waive him straight to save up about $6million.

Wa na klaro PG ang Charlotte.

    PG: D.J. Augustin
SG: Stephen Jackson, Gerald Henderson, Matt Carroll
SF: Gerald Wallace, Derrick Brown, Dominic McGuire
PF: Boris Diaw, Tyrus Thomas, Eduardo Najera
C: Nazr Mohammed, Erick Dampier, DeSagana Diop, Dwyane Jones

So, no go ang Calderon to Bobcats, which is a shame.
