most temperature gauges do not show degrees, instead they will read cold (color is white), hot (color is red) and has a normal range in the middle.
If you notice that the gauge is reading much hotter than it usually is and the outside temperature is not unusually hot, have your cooling system checked ASAP. (radiator leaks, busted caps, busted hose either upper or lower, loose or broken down hose clamps, bypass line leaks or you forgot to put h2o on it).
If temperature gauge moves all the way to hot, the engine is overheating, safely pull off the road & turn your engine off and let it cool, an overheating engine can quickly cause serious engine damage.
