That's the 2nd sign of comic book artists - they want to look handsome or beautiful but since we can't afford plastic surgery, we just draw our alter-egos and our "dream" babes. Of course, the #1 sign is that we're ***-starved maniacs who can't stop staring at women's, er, mammary glands (from an artistic point of view). If you still want to join us after this revelation, then you must have an iron stomach, otherwise you might be disgorging the bottomless ice tea at Bigby's in no time. But don't worry, some of us really have good looks like Santini, john_amor (our certified chick-magnet) and of course zerk, that is if you're the type who's into sumo wrestlers.
whoa!!hahahahaha! so prolly, some if not all of u guyz have the talent of having a woman naked by just barely lookin at them?.. (gulp..gulp..gulp) geez..got goosebumps here hehe kiddin' but i understand though that true artists draw from verbal and visual observational information.. but in your case..ur visual ability superceeds all the others hahahaha peace peace peace.. wuz just jokin'

I can't draw women - clothed or not - from imagination. I haven't drawn enough from photo references and from life to internalize their design patterns. I'm not sure about verbal information but I use visual and tactile information to draw. I have to touch my subjects before I draw them so I can draw the correct textures in the right direction. This doesn't mean however that I would touch somebody's pecker or boobies in a nude figure drawing class. I've got access to both (not necessarily from the same body) because I'm married.

As for the others here, I don't really know what's going on with their minds when they see a sexy woman. Last Sunday, we saw one and vemp and zerk couldn't stop staring and wondering, er, I better stop. I'll just continue the sordid story when you're in na like dichromatic_beagle, kasi kadiri talaga.

@vemp: Joke <snicker>. Er, bai, no need to put crazed and maniacs together. Usa ra pasabot ana.

@gLiTTeRz: Some of our pics at #75 in the comic book drawing club in Cebu thread. vemp's right. I was just teasing them. zerk and vemp are gentlemen.
I'm the one who's dangerous but don't worry they're bigger than me so you're well protected.

@Junpei : It's in Ayala (Cebu). Â*It's above Don Henrico's. Â*You won't miss it. Â*Ask any of the guards if you still can't find it. Â*You should also see Bo's Cafe and Tequila Joe.

@rj325: I can't draw digitally but I hope you don't mind me saying that shading need consistency. Where are the light sources of your drawing? Based on the shadows on his right shoulder, the light source is on the left. The right side of the face should be darker than the left especially in temple and areas after the nose. The forehead will only show gradual transition since it's relatively flatter although in reality it's a little curved. Reduce the shading or even remove the cast shadow on the left side of the nose as it is being hit by direct light. I know the drawing is a cartoon but the eyes are a bit scary. You made the sclera (the white of the eye) black and the iris/pupil white. I understand you may have wanted to effect a highlight. Anyway, just a suggestion from a fellow noob.

Expanding on what cmontoya stated, unless you have prior knowledge of the science of light and shadows in art and has defied said science on purpose, follow his advice.

However, there are cases where artists intentionally defy this science to attain an aesthetic effect, as is common in Western comic-books, particularly those styles from the early nineties (of which the works of Jim Lee, Whilce Portacio, Marc Silvestri are among those that stand out and that have increase the sales of those comic-books they illustrated quite impressively). Such artists, however, mostly already have a prior knowledge of said science, but yet deliberately defy it, again, to achieve such effects.

Most art professionals-- even comic-book artists themselves who defy said science (and they do often admit such defiance) --would urge, if not insist, beginners to repress influences of works of art that defy said science-- until they have some grasp of it.

    Pax.
