Kin agree to lie-detector test

WITH the mixed statements of the Metro Gaisano Colon's security personnel on the nature of alleged shoplifter Mario Alfie Ducayag's death, the 23-year-old housekeeping student's family is open to the possibility of letting them undergo a lie-detection test.

But it is up to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 to decide, said Ducayag's sister, Marie Shantylle.

"If it is deemed necessary by the NBI and to be able to prove the veracity of their statements," she said.

NBI 7 Director Antonio Pagatpat, however, said he saw no reason to conduct a polygraph test because the incident happened in the presence of several people.

In their affidavits executed before the Cebu City Police, the mall's chief security officer Mauricio Doblados Jr. and house detective Melvin Boyles named security camera operator Jeffrey Aquino as the one who mauled Ducayag to death last April 12.

But in an earlier investigation conducted by the store's management, Doblados and Boyles said Ducayag fell off from a chair and died after a seizure.

After he was released from detention by the police last April 29, Aquino told the media that he was only a fall guy and he accused Doblados as the one who mauled Ducayag.

He also said Boyles was the one who accosted the victim.

Security guard Margie Gacer (not Gaser as earlier reported) executed a sworn statement before NBI 7 Supervising Agent Bernard dela Cruz last April 24, saying that he was the one who caught Ducayag at Metro Gaisano's gate because he failed to show a receipt for a pair of sandals.

But two days later, Gacer recanted her testimony before dela Cruz, Bombo Radyo-Cebu
reported.

"I was hunted by my conscience and I am afraid of my life because I received Facebook messages asking my participation on the death of Alfie Ducayag," she said.

Versions

Doblados and Boyles allegedly forced her to lie that she was the one who apprehended Ducayag at the store's exit door.

Gacer said it was she who was allegedly briefed by Doblados that he caught Ducayag after the victim failed to show receipt for the sandals and called the security office.

She was further coached that it was Aquino who answered her call and the latter fetched Ducayag.

But the truth was, Gacer said, she was assigned at the entrance to frisk female customers.

Before she saw Ducayag being carried by the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (Eruf), she was radioed by a fellow security officer to go to the store's loading area.

When she arrived, she asked another security guard what was happening.

"Naay nadakpan na nagkuyap-kuyap sa taas (Someone has been arrested and pretended to faint)," the guard said.

Request

Gacer later was instructed by the Eruf personnel to escort Ducayag to the Cebu City Medical Center.

She said she saw Boyles and Aquino verifying Ducayag's status and they were "so uneasy and tense."

After Ducayag was declared dead on arrival, Gacer said she was called to go to the security office along with other security guards.

"I observed the people were gubot and uneasy (chaotic)," she said.

Gacer, Aquino, Boyles and two other security personnel were allegedly instructed by Doblados to report the incident to the Waterfront Police Station.

Doblados allegedly instructed them that it was Aquino who apprehended Ducayag and not Boyles, who was reportedly nervous.

"Basin makuyapan," said the chief security officer, as quoted by Gacer.

Questioning

At the police station, Boyles and other security personnel left Aquino and Gacer to answer the police's questions.

Gacer said she was very nervous and asked Aquino if they will be detained.

"If that happens, I will divulge the truth," said Aquino, as quoted by Gacer.

After they came back to the security office, Gacer said she saw Doblados being interviewed by the homicide investigators.

There was a re-enactment of the incident narrated by Doblados, while Aquino was listening.
