The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas said Thursday it foiled an attempt to hack its website, one week after an unprecedented breach on the Commission on Elections database put millions at risk from identity theft.
The attack on the BSP website also came after a warning from global financial network SWIFT about recent multiple cyber fraud incidents targeting its system.
"There were attempts and I think this is a fact of life but we have been able to turn them back," BSP Governor Amando Tetangco told reporters. "Attempts are always there."
"The BSP website remains up and running but we continue to monitor as we always do," Tetangco said in a text message to ABS-CBN News.
Tetangco said updating the central bank's firewall and other internet security features was a "continuing effort."
The BSP website contains mostly economic data and research papers.
