    This is a moot point.

gi-counter lang nila ang good publicity with bad publicity.
I agree BUT MJ is not an OFW. So how could you help a person who never existed in their list.

As an ardent and staunch critic of this administration, I believe that credit should be given to where it is due. In this case, the fact alone that the President spent a handful of minutes for this criminal (come on guys, we all know what happened here..) is credit to itself. Should the family thank Pnoy and the admin? No need. It was their job. But insulting the President and the administration because they failed on their attempts is ridiculous and ungrateful and insulting not just to the targets but to the rest of the people who supported them and prayed for them. I'd say she was paid. And I'd say the world won't lose it's balance if they put thousands of holes through her daughter. That'll ought to teach people not to smuggle drugs.

They are making a fuss out of this to muddle the issue and some idiots simply ride on. It is the State's obligation to help their citizens.

I found it absurd to compare it to gratitude to parents or any family matters. Those things are best left private and personal.

She entered as a tourist but accepted favors for money which makes her an OFW. Unfortunately she is not a de jure OFW but rather a de facto OFW which disables her from earning some legal protections OFWs are entitled to. But ultimately she is a filipino and is a responsibility of the Philippine Republic.

Anyway, no point reading this thread. She doesn't need to or have to.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

ahehe.. I don't know how rude people nowadays.. A simple "Thank You" could hurt their butt.. I don't even see how would you use that word.. Thats the "de facto" standards of expressing gratitude mister sir..

and ... "It is the State's obligation to help their citizens. ".. as if there are no limitations or boundaries?? hahaha..
try dw pagdala heroin didto, then blame gov't because they should help you as a FILIPINO citizen.. and lets see.,.

No point to argue though,.. just read how MJ got there technically..

i never implied she was an OFW, i merely emphasize OFW cause the government had long forgotten them; we given too much dole out to poor people and yet they give little to the OFWs who try to make a living for themselves and in a way help the country through remittances. I read before P300M lang budget sa OFWs (correct me if im wrong though) compare to over $1B dole out. Tax money should be prioritize to deserving people.

She wouldnt be on a list considering she went through illegal means but i read sources that she is considered as OFW, but as Mad said shes a Filipino deserving assistance from our government. The problem right now is that the government had just presented MJ's recruiter for a case extended since 2010, for the sole purpose maybe to extend her life? lol; they could have presented that recruiter long ago and maybe just maybe MJ will walk out alive. Not much can be done now considering the case is close; shes already doom. The government sat on the case for 5 years.

I think people should understand the frustrations of the Veloso family cause they know better on what truly happened.

    As what Miriam Santiago said..

Mary Jane Veloso lives for now, but she is still on death row. The government may have persuaded Indonesia to postpone the execution, but it appears that it has failed to make sure there is no death sentence in the first place,” the senator said.

Santiago assailed the government’s failure to immediately provide lawyers who will see Veloso through Indonesia’s criminal proceedings. Veloso reportedly had no counsel when her initial testimonies were recorded, and was assisted during trial by an unlicensed translator.

Indonesia sentenced Veloso to death in 2010. The Philippines appealed for clemency in 2011, saying that Veloso is a victim of an international syndicate using unsuspecting OFWs as drug couriers. The appeal was rejected in January 2015, and Veloso was scheduled for execution.

“Must we always resort to last-minute remedies? Must we wait for Filipinos to be put behind foreign bars or sentenced to death before we act?” Santiago said.
