Well I might go right to this one ... I won't watch Harry Potter.after they watch harry potter, let's give philippine cinema another chance.
saw the first portion of it in our class. great cinematography. scorcese style long master shots.
wonder what camera they used. 500k isnt enough for film, im certain of it. im contemplating it's a high grade camcorder, post done with masterful color correction...

Why do all the filipino entries that do well in film festivals always have to deal with gayness in one way or another?
I've formulated several hypotheses but I'm curious as to what the rest of you guys think.
here's what I think,
The international people seem to like those culture or exotic things from other counttries that is totally off or strange to them, so this comples them to watch. aka the gay culture in the phils.
like MASAHISTA for example, the story was nothing new, kinda like Softcore Gay porn, but the int'l people who watched it are awed and curious to the film's many Filipino way of doing things or something, like the funeral techniques and metahpors.
For the Record:
MAximo isn't a gay film, the title is a bit misleading, but it is a COMING OF AGE film, like Y tu Mama Tabien (By Alfonso Cuaron) and Nobody Knows (a Japanese Film).
It could also be that a lot of the directors / filmmakers who are in the thick of things are gay.
Most Filipino directors / screenwriters come from a theatrical background. I'm not saying that all men who are into theater are gay, but a lot of them are.
Hence when they switch to making films, they choose subject matters which are relevant to themselves.

Stop pretending there you're so sincerely candidly pretentiousÂ* ;-bÂ* Even Lord of the Rings admits it's a gay film because Ian McKellen is gay.. X-Men United was a gay film because Bryan Singer is gay and Superman Returns will certainly be another gay film because Singer is directing it. j/k
