    but sometimes, it is most difficult for people at the lowest levels to do just what you said, our institutions actually make it difficult for them to get better lives, because they need them to stay in power..for middle class, dali ra, but for the poorest of the poor lisod jud

    yes we are poor... that's a fact and we should face it... and again, yes, it can be difficult.. it's an added load aside from being poor... but difficult doesn't mean "impossible"... what most of us don't see is that we will always stay this way unless we try to do something about it... ranting on the situation won't do any better... of course success is never an assurance and failure will always be there waiting at the bottom with arms wide open but hey! at least we tried... maybe all we need is just a change in perspective... maybe a little encouragement... or perhaps a slap in the face for us to wake up... (grin... joking aside)... seriously why am i pushing this?

    "totoy kumilos ka baliktarin ang tatsulok. at ang tulad mong dukha ilagay mo sa tuktok"
    that should say it all... (more coffee... coffee.. coffee..)

    the thing about our current system is that when somebody makes a better life, someone else is paying for it, maybe not directly...someone makes money, somebody else loses it..I know because I once work with the financial investments

    The figures are just figures for some. But if it's the real experts who talk about it and interpret the numbers I would say that it's real. It's not just "tweaking" the figures to show an impressive image, it's the reality. If we observe closely, the 7.5% GDP growth rate during the second quarter is consistent with all other positive economic feedback the Philippines has been receiving from the start of this year. So, it can then be concluded that this poor country's economic status has really improved.

    Of course we don't have jobs or earnings we won't be able to spend. We will not feel the effect of these growth rates. Some of us remain poor because of the lack of initiative to find means to earn a living.

    or maybe because even with initiative, somebody else got a bigger share of what is supposed due the laborer..just a thought...numbers are of course real, I dont question the statistic but how this has uplifted the plight of the people..ang pobre, pirme lang magamit sa mga dagko, especially sa mga shadowy nga kalihokan nga usahay wala sila kahibalo nga illegal ila gibuhat and kung masakpan, sila ra intawn mapriso, ang nagpaluyo nga gamhanan ug kwartahan, walay tatsa..ang real nga paglaum for me is whn we start looking at our systems and fix what doesnt work, then maybe we can talk about real growth that can be felt by the people, I doubt nga sayon ra ni because for one, ang mga kadaghanang adunahan moprotect man dayon sa ilahang mga selfish interests

    I think tinood ni ... Just observe how your barkada or circle of friends fared over the years ..

    2 years ago, puro mi pobre tanan, we took public transpo to work each day, there were times na mangutang pa ko para makaplete, we each bring our own baon for luch at work, etc. Pero karon, I guessed me and my friends have been blessed (dakong pasalamat sa Ginoo) - now each of us has our own cars, a friend of mine now lives in his new house and lot, another started his own business. Makaya man siguro sa tanan mo asenso ... it just takes hard work ... and the initiative to grow ...

    @Thads

    For those people, malooy man unta ta pero liberating them from poverty lisod gyud kaayo. The only thing that can liberate them is education, no amount of alms o bisan unsa-on pa na sila nimo ug hatag ug kwarta, mahanaw ra na sa ilang mga kamot. By empowering them education and with skills na magamit sa ilang panginabuhi, they wouldn't have to depend on anybody's donation anymore. Its really a tough job for the government to provide livelihood skills to these people, these tasks should not be left to the NGO's alone, the government must involve itself since it affected almost half of the population.

    Para nako in order to bring the Class E people you have described to the middle class:

    1) Micro credit - the fact that most banks don't want to lend money to these people is discouraging. Micro finance should be initiated by the government following the model used by Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microcredit

    2) Comprehensive Agrarian Reform - Apparently not comprehensive enough.

    3) More livelihood programs to the Urban Poor - Together with Microcredit, this will empower the poor with a means to learn livelihood and elevate themselves from poverty. I've already seen some livelihood programs being initiated for the Rural Poor, how about the Urban poor?

    4) Encourage Entrepreneurship -

    and make education more accessible, maskin NGO's magtabang, at least restructure government bureaucracy so that dili kaayo dugay ang processes, usahay, they'd rahter be out in the sun working for very little(kay ang bigger part sa ilaha paid labor dili maadto sa ilaha) than line up..CARP have shown us how the rich will do everything to protect selfish interests..usahay sad kani pod mga urban poor, ug tabangan nimo dili sad kabalo unsaon paggamit sa tabang, so dapat ieducate sad na sila ana..ug mas maayo ug dili dole out ang tabang kay hollow man gud, ibaigya ra ang socialized housing units kay mas masilaw man sa immediately naa dako nga kwarta, pero kapait kay dili kabalo mogamit sa kwarta..faet

    Poverty is never an excuse. Both my parents didn't finish elementary, but they managed to send both me and my sister to good schools and both of us have finished college (from USC) and both of us have thankfully good jobs which pays well enough.

    Both my parents have foresight for one thing not to have too many kids and worked really hard to send both of their children to good schools. So its just a question of having good foresight and working hard and yeah not being stupid.
