'Captain America: Civil War': William Hurt Teases "Much Different" Thunderbolt Ross
Will the Hulk hunter see red in his next Marvel appearance?
When William Hurt re-enters the Marvel Cinematic Universe in next year's Captain America: Civil War, he'll be playing a "much different" version of his Thunderbolt Ross character than the one that appeared in 2008's The Incredible Hulk.
The original Ross had, Hurt told IGN, "an ego as big as the monster he was chasing. And one that was as warped, too." But the one that appears in the third Captain America movie is, he said, "different because it's a different style. It's a more modernized style. And what they've done is they've taken a character who was the Ross from the older film and made a new version."
He went on, "This is a much newer Ross. A much different Ross. And I liked that a lot. I haven't had a lot of time to understand it, but I'm doing the best I can. And they haven't fired me yet."
Talk of a "much different Ross" is only likely to further fuel Marvel fans' conviction that Civil War will see the movies follow the lead of Marvel's comic book continuity and turn Ross — traditionally, a U.S. Air Force general who hunts the Hulk — into a Hulk himself, albeit one that's arguably smarter (and meaner) than Bruce Banner's alter ego ever managed to be.
With Captain America: Civil War seeing Marvel's cinematic superheroes divided, is it possible that Hurt's reappearance could mean that each side will have its own Hulk? We'll find out when the movie is released May 6, 2016.
