gents: LytSlpr provided a very good rundown of everything. i just wanted to add a lil something about socks. never wear white socks with dark suits. for formal/evening, even street or business wear, it is strongly recommended that men wear over-the-calf stretch dark socks. if you're gonna wear a tie, it's not necessary that it matches the socks.

ladies: nothing could be more exquisitely elegant than black...

business attire, i go for classic pants suits. but you prefer to wear skirted suits, you may need to use stockings. i suggest the neutral or skin-toned ones. black is classy but never wear dark hose with light-colored clothing or shoes. open-toed or backless shoes are a no-no.

i will hold my breath about dressing up for weddings bcuz this one always gimme a hard time.
