it would really depend on a lot of aspects, one will be is "what do you want?", there are people who are into sporting dogs, working dogs, protection dogs, or will be used for breeding, or guard dogs, or as couch potatoes, or just as plain pets or companions. Some activities would require to be breed-specific for there are what we call temperaments and drives which breeders and handlers observe and nurture thereon. If you want to be a reputable breeder, then breed purity is necessary. As for just pets/companions, i don't think that the breed would really matter unless there is a specific appearance that you would strongly like. I have 2 dogs myself, 1 purebred lab, and a mix of japanese spitz x shipoo (shitzu x poodle), treat them both same, play with them, and have fun with them, both are receiving same amount care and a good diet (they're on Acana pacifica). If i may add, choosing the right breed for house pets would also depend A LOT on your lifestyle, the amount of time you have to be with them and your activity levels. I used to have a Belgian Malinois, a VERY high energy dog, tons and tons of prey drive and territorial instincts, he plays with me and my other dog with all that energy and it turned out that it is really not working for us kai rough kayo siya makadala ug duwa, my medium energy cant cope up with his very high energy so sad to say, I had to and did let him go.
Choosing the right breed, pure, cross, or mix is really a matter of personal preference, would vary greatly from person to person. Maybe you would like to ask yourself first,
*what do you want?
*what is the maximum time and financial budget that you can provide when you will get a new dog?
*how much space do i have at home?
*who and what will be affected when i will get a new dog?
Thereon, we can be of more help in telling you which breed to choose.
