Oh I'm not saying it's misused. It's definitely put to good use. Norway and the rest of the Scandinavian countries are known to be among the more progressive countries. Their GDP is comprised of 50% taxes, but it's definitely put to good use. Their quality of life is taken cared of by their governments.

we must bear in mind not to interchange terminologies, and assume that one means the other. this is a common error that i see in the forum. it's really dependent on whether we talk about political or economic axes.

    • political axis: is the political rule authoritarian or libertarian?
    • economic axis: is the economy more dominated by the government (socialist) or dominated by the market (capitalist)?

the Nordic countries and the dominant powers of Europe, under the banner of social democracy, have strong liberal representative democracies, but have a considerable public sector in their economies mainly focused on welfare and social services (education, health, public utilities, etc.), hence the term "welfare state"

theirs is but one of the many types and "flavors" of socialism that there is. among the revolutionary types, there are various kinds (Marxist-Leninist, Maoist, etc.). the libertarian socialists and anarchist wing has even more number of sub-types.

Its always easy for those who haven't lived in a Communist country to say Communism really works. 70-100 million people died in one century alone because of one bad IDEA and there's still proponents out there believing it works. The PSA is clearly against the Communist aggression in Asia and the 1950's during the Huk insurrection, not against laissez-faire socialism implemented by the so-called socialist states today -which by the way- is just for them to actually survive.

It bothers me, although not surprisingly, a socialist would always defend Communism and yet deny they themselves are Communist.

Remember Berlin and the Berlin Wall? People from Soviet-ruled East Berlin (DDR) risk their lives, ran on barbed-wires, checkpoints, jumped out of buildings to escape to the West.

East Berliners Escape to the West 1961 - YouTube

Anyone familiar with this pic? It's an East German soldier who defected to the West in 1961. He later committed suicide 37 years later in 1998. When the Wall fell in the 80's he was afraid from retributions because the picture above has become so popular and became a symbol of freedom.

    Yah depressing.
