how come the search results are not very accurate?
like when you search for a thread. it is not expected for one to know the name of the thread. most of us search by keywords. but keyword search does not give you the accurate results. it gives you a list of threads most of them not even related to the keyword.
i.e. I searched stamp collecting (https://www.istorya.net/forums/search...earchid=416940), these are my top 5 results:
1. postal stamp collection
2. on buying a parcel of land
3. stamp collection
4. unsa'y makit-an sa sulod imong kwarto?
5. official thread sinulog 2012
1 & 3 are hits but how come stamp collection has a lower ranking than on buying a parcel of land? I assume one or more posts on those other threads mention stamp collecting. Isn't the thread's title supposed to be the identifier? It should have given me title results first and post results last.
when I searched Transformers 4 (https://www.istorya.net/forums/search...earchid=416945):
1. For Sale: Asus Transformer TF101 complete
2. For Sale: Asus Transformer TF101 complete w/ keyboard
3. For Sale: Power Transformer 65v 0 65v.
4. Transformers 4... is brewing. how cool is that!
5. ASUS unveils Eee Pad Transformer TF101 with built-in WiMAX
number 4 is a hit but it is on 4th place. don't tell me it is an seo thingy. the search results are worse when you are not logged in to your account.
when I searched The Avengers (Search Results - iSTORYA.NET) logged out:
it only gave me:
Doomsday, Horror MMOFPS (1 of 500 results)
but when I am logged in (https://www.istorya.net/forums/search...earchid=416968), the results were:
1. MUST-WATCH Movies this 2012
2. The Avengers
3. What's the last movie you've watched?
4. Marvel's The Avengers Super Bowl XLVI Trailer - Teaser | HD
5. The avengers!!!!!
I believe it is more inviting and enticing to outsiders if we give them the best results in a search. i.e. I am an Avengers fan and I'd like to join a good talk about the Avengers, I visited istorya.net, I don't have an account, searched The Avengers on the search bar and got Doomsday, Horror MMOFPS instead. Would I want to join istorya.net when I think no one is talking about the Avengers in the forum?
Is there a workaround when sending messages to istoryans but whos inbox is full? It's a hassle when you are typing a long message only to find out that you can not send it because their inbox has reached the limit... >.<
yeah and the search option is so uncool.. the last time, the search option was more bearable even though you had to click more options to narrow your search. now it's crazy as ****. I can't find something legit.
Hello. I cant seem to start a new thread even if i have the "Junior Member" Status... please help me...
ok i hope you can understand technical answer on vbulletin..
to make the search results they have to modify search result php code, if only istoryan are smart enough to put tags (just below the post icon) then searching would be more accurate and fast apparently not all uses that field, its like SEO...
you could also use the advanced search by default it searches per post and displays by posts, but in advanced search there is an option to display by thread
TEST: "The Avengers"
this reply will soon be found on search results if you searched "The Avengers", unless if this excluded by settings...
so dont expect to have a very accurate result
you could also use this trick in google search:
<keyword> inurl: "<any url>"
the only solution is to increase the inbox limit from the admin panel of vBulletin, or you could just tell the person you are PMng to clear its inbox, either by deleting or by exporting it into XML, CSV or TXT then deleting it...
btw this will also worked on other forum software like SMF,PHPBB and PHPNUKE

geo25 has a very good point there.
@salbahis, you can never expect from majority of our members to use tags or other means to make their threads "searchable". most forums are now integrating 3rd party search engines to their sites and get better and more accurate searching.
