It did weaken by the time it hit the Mid-Atlantic, though.

dili to overhyped kay it was really having winds of Cat 3-4 hurricanes. Ang wala lang gisulti sa media is mostly sa dagat ra nag-agi. Gamay ra ang part nga naagi-an nga yuta. Maybe nabag-ohan ang media since for the past 3 years, wala man kaayo kusog nga hurricane sa eastern seaboard.

By the way, naa na sad building hurricane southeast of The Bahamas.

I agree that it had the potential to be very destructive, but to talk about the hurricane 24/7? Even the local news where its area wasn't a direct path had nothing else to talk about than Irene. I'm in the DC area, and we're all a bunch of weather whimps here. If it wasn't expected to hit NYC or the "elitist" states, it wouldn't have this much news coverage.

Perhaps because it's rare for a hurricane to actually make landfall in NJ and NY. Last major hurricane to hit NY was in the 30s if I'm not mistaken, hence the focused attention. As I read in some article, NY has first-class evac protocols, but the people themselves don't know jack about dealing with storms like Irene.
