grabe kataas.. i think nakabasa nako ani sa lain nga thread (but mas mubo to). IMO, i don't think it is realistic to build a governing body for this (no Offense). Wa man tay Bachelor degree diri on photography di ba?! unsaon man pag ingon nga PRO na ang photog, dba tungod sa exposure/experience niya? 6K photographer are usually the newbies trying to gain experience or the Old school nga photog sa simbahan trying to earn a living. for the newbies later on they will realize nga kuwang ta ang 6K so eventually they will move up. ang consumer base sad karon nagkadako, ang makaafford di jud na moadto sa mga 6k photogs (makaguba sa image nila), adto jud na sa mga inila nga mga photogs.

if maabot man ang adlaw nga naa nay governing body ani, i hope kabalo sad sila motrain sa mga aspiring Photogs di lang kay moaccept sa bayad para license. OR there should be an accredited training School nga didto ra makakuha og license (similar to Driving schools).. if not, then naghimo lang ta og parehas sa LTO (gihimo rang gatasan ra sa uban)..

...The question, however, arises if we have a board or association to set some sort of standard to be considered as a professional photographer.
If this association will educate photographers on how they are supposed to calculate their rates then I say I'm all for it.

But if this association is to come up with a rate bracket (if you're starting out with little experience then you should charge this much; if you're a seasoned pro then this you should be charging this rate) then that is not the right way to go.

There's also the consideration of this association will be charging membership fees? If you shoot a gig/wedding once a month are you going to pay membership fees for this? ...especially if you're already paying membership fees to your local clubs?

I think it would be better if the clubs/associations you're already a member of would put an effort in educating their members on the business side of photography aside from the usual exposure and lighting workshops.

We've had some discussion on this here in the forum already. I always stress the importance of knowing how to calculate your Cost of Doing Business.

^^ mabawa og intelligent discussion sa inyo sa? preno sa pagarpar bai. this is not your site para magbuot-bout ka. stick to the topic nalng. di man ni popularity contest bai ("Like" button ei?!) karon pa siguro ka kasulod og forum...maka comment ang tao bai basta member sa site kay forum man gud ni. if you want to be respected, learn how to respect sa.

@TS: thanks sa info bai. but i noticed way cebu sa imo gipanghatag (mas pa nga wa jud na sa mindanao). how will we be able to build a guild bai kung gamay ra ang naay chance makaskwela ana bai. naa ra sa NCR tanan. I remember nag offer ang IAFT og photography & tesda sad (but dili bachelors degree) before.sorry ngutana nalng sad ko, naa ba ang mga known universities ana diri bai? I think the main discussion is the business of photography & not the art right? if so, i think mas angay nga i regulate tong mga nagpa seminar og photography kay mas dako to silag igo (1-3 days ra ,wa pajuy i-edit.). 6K is only for those hobbyista nga nag try lang if makaya nila. later they will realize nga di na mao ang saktong rate, mosaka rana sila.

wow very informative thread ..... hehehehe

    IMHO

    - reality speaks for itself that majority of the couple who get married are only earning minimum wages
and with your 280 per day do you think you can afford to spend 69K photography budget?
    - even manager who only earns 20K-30K monthly salary still looking for an affordable services.
    - unless you have a big savings or you have a lots of money where you can spend more than 69K.

    - what happen to those less fortunate (like security guards, janitors or even waiters) can they afford the 69K budget?

    - and one thing also, if their is strict rules of being a photographer and you need to enroll and earned your degree in photography, is it makes you a better photographer?
    - now what happen to those photogs who do self-study are they disqualified to this business? if ever this is the case then i need to hang-up my camera and go back to a day job.

lastly, every budget depends how much your customer can afford.

    just my 2 centavos.

caranzo: I agree with you bai. dako na kaayo ang gap ron sa naay budget og wala.

Photography is now a fad. grabe na ang technology karon. halos tanan makaafford na. mao na ni ang Hobby sa kasagaran nakong nailhan. so if gusto sila magsideline, why not?! i am sure daghan diri mao nang gibuhat as a start (sideline). but if full time na gani ang storyahan, lahi najud ang rate diba?! nagbayad naka og tax, naa nakay shop, dako na imong operation (& mas mahal na imong mga gears ana). In any business bai, mas nindot jud ning competition & it depends on how much your customer can afford jud. so para nako di mawagtang agn mga clients ang mga Big Time Photogs ana oi.
