lisod gyud tinuoray magpabarog ug kaugalingon nga firm ang mga young architects diri sa ato. ayaw lang sa pag subra pagka confident nga kaya na nimo maka himo ug own private firm.. dapat partnership lang usa imong buhaton.. ginagmay lang usa, like what kazki said, you need three things - field experience, influence and an extreme amount of connections.. dako pod ug factor kung kamao ka ug sales talk like business man do.. btw, im an arki grad not licensed though.

quoting from a fellow architect and classmate before:
architects are like doctors, they are liable for the safety of the occupants. they are like lawyers, defending the client from the contractors using the working drawings that serve as a drawn contract. lastly, they are inventors, they turn an idea into a reality. sad thing, architects don't have as much respect here compared to other countries.

Just think of your architect as your wedding coordinator.

People always haggle with regards to architects fees, while if the wedding coordinator bares their charges, you'll just fart and issue a check, no questions asked, and take note its just a 1 day event.

USC is the only architecture school in cebu that teaches Architecture the way it should be. example in USC they will not accept 1 regular apartment building as thesis how much more if 3 person will work on it, while in CIT and UV before it is accepted. Unless you will convince the panel that your proposed apartment has something new architectural system not design, then USC panel will accept it as thesis for 1 person.
if this is true bro.. they have the wrong educational system
for they are making slaves instead of masters...

Yes, it's a waste of talent. Might as well make money elsewhere (abroad) where the pay is good and services are properly compensated.
there is not much difference in us & architecture..in fact we hire architects for our designs..
and ill agree its not easy..ive come this point with more pain than you ever think of..

sakto. maayu pa ang wedding business karon. mas na appreciate sa tawo. from wedding coordinator, to photography and video, bayad dayun ang client for the event (which takes only days).

Good for you, Sir. I hope you'll keep up with that enthusiasm on the years to come. In here, same rule still applies to all fields - It's who you know and not what you know (unlike in other countries)... I think you already have a good network within your belt, you should've no worries getting clients... But mind you, common people really don't respect the architect's job - for them, the plan is just a piece of paper required for the Building Official. Heck, even clients think they can do better than their architects...in a flick on an instance, they want things changed in the middle of a construction.

Here's a classic example - A client gets a badly made house, he blames the architect for the bad design. When the client's house gets appreciated, he tells everyone that he designed the house and the architect didn't do anything. So much for respect...

May I ask how much does your company pay your architects for the said job?

Here's a thought - For residential houses, Architects are supposed to get paid at the rate of 10% of the total construction cost (Say, 150k for a 1.5m residential house). Apparently, that thing never gets anywhere in this country.
