CEBU CITY (2nd Update, 3:12 p.m.) -- Fifty houses were razed in a fire that hit Banawa, Barangay Guadalupe, this city, a fire official said Saturday.

Antonio Gonzales, Cebu fire investigator, said in a phone interview that the fire started at the second floor of the house of a certain Josefina Navarro at Sitio Kana-as in Banawa.

The fire spread quickly to Sitio Riverside as the houses in the area were made of light materials.

Gonzalez said the fire broke out around 10 a.m., but they only received the report at 11:12 a.m. Saturday.

The fire was declared under control at 1:34 p.m. It reached the second alarm.

No fatalities were reported, but initial reports said around P800,000 worth of property was damaged.

Gonzales said they will issue a subpoena to Navarro's son, who was at the house when the fire broke out, on Monday to get his statement.

Authorities are still conducting investigation on the incident.

The fire broke out barely a month after a blaze that razed more than 30 houses in Barangay T. Padilla, this city. Thousands of residents were left homeless in that incident.
