PS3 looks like a winner
by Langston Wertz Jr.
If you just watched the video clips coming from Sony and Microsoft in recent weeks, it would be hard not to crown the new PlayStation 3 the winner in the next-generation console wars.
The games look simply amazing. Remember how in the early days of PS2 we were amazed at how good the little introductory movies would look before the game started? Now, the actual game play looks better than that.
PS3 is cool looking, too, with a futuristic Bluetooth wireless controller (with up to seven ports) and a silver base that looks an awful lot like a Bose speaker system controller. The controllers will have a 24-hour charge, and your PSP unit can be used as one, too.
Microsoft will have a big jump on Sony by releasing Xbox 360 by the holidays (for a rumored price of $299 and $360, depending on which model you buy). Rumors have the new PlayStation running as high as $499.
This time, Xbox is putting Internet access into the box at launch and has the support of multiple third-party game makers, which sounds a lot like the strategy Sony used to muscle out Nintendo and Sega and gain control of the video-game console marketplace.
But Sony's new box is going to prove quite the competitor. Sony computer entertainment head Ken Kutaragi introduced it as a "supercomputer for computer entertainment." And that's about right.
The PS3 will use Blu-ray Discs, which can hold up to six times as much data as current DVDs, which the unit will also play.
The unit itself has two teraflops of overall performance and uses something called an RSX Reality Synthesizer, which is more powerful than two Geforce 6800 Ultra video cards, which would you cost you about two bills today (that's $2,000).
All that's what will make the games look as good as special effects from the new "Star Wars" film.
Beyond all that techno mumbo jumbo, the PS3 is one powerful piece of equipment. As for comparing the two, some say the Xbox is juicer; others say PS3. I'm not enough of a computer expert to know. Ultimately, the games will decide the battle.
I'll be curious to compare the same game on both systems to see which looks better. It's what makes me play Xbox versions of games today over PS2. Xbox looks better, sharper, crisper. We're still playing games with four-button controllers. Not much has changed there, so what gets me is who can do the coolest-looking stuff.
Should be fun to watch this fight.
Killzone 2 anyone? Damn. The PS3 is too powerful. How about FF7 Tech Demo? S#!7 !!! I'm so excited. ^_^
PS3 = More Games
XBOX 360 = Less Games
Since Sony has more contracts = more games
i got w/ PS3 Unless XBOX has made lots of contracts :P
Sadly there will be no Final Fantasy 7 for PS3it was only a techdemo.
Most of the games na nindot was developed in Japan.
