The tips are getting interesting! Thank you all. I'm taking note of these, plan nako i-compile for everybody who's interested in the frugal lifestyle. More from me:

    * I like the catsup packet tip. I've started doing this also. We have this big glass jar in the house where we put our free (we paid for these actually) catsup and sugar packets from the fastfood restaurants. It's nice and makes the packets visible. Further: I don't waste the table napkins either.

    * Friends shared this to me. They have an ukay-ukay tindera text them whenever there's a SALE at the ukay-ukay. Yes, even ukay-ukay stores hold sales (I forgot the name, but somewhere in Colon). So 100-peso items become 50, 50-peso items become 30, etc. Before also, a friend of mine befriended a salesgirl at Rustan's and had her text also whenever there's an upcoming sale. I guess the lesson is: befriend salespersons

    * My auntie is buying powder detergent from a retailer friend of hers at 55 per kilo. I think it's the cheapest detergent around (the name is Waves).

    * I have a pack of sliced baguio beans here nga ni-brown na (due to oxidation man ni noh?). Before, I would just throw such food item into the kitchen trash bin. Pero karon makonsyensha na ko and ma challenge man sad, so I'm thinking of a way to salvage it. I read somewhere that one can make veggie dips out of scrap veggies. Na hala, ako ning suwayan karon. Will inform you of results after.

    Keep the tips pouring in!

Which is better, enjoy your earnings now or save until you're too old to enjoy it?

The way I see it, the frugal lifestyle calls for one to save money and enjoy life at the same time. That's why one has to be careful not to go to extremes--being a spendthrift and being a miser. Kung spendthrift ka, guranteed wala kay ika-enjoy inig tiguwang nimo. Kung miser sad ka, daghan kag kwarta pero walay ka enjoy-enjoy. Balance / moderation is the ultimate sophistication.

Para pud naku, I want me and my husband make lots of money and splurge on a vacation spree once a year. I plan to take my kids gradually to places suitable for their age. From disneyland to beaches in the Philippines, to waterworld, to niagara falls, to museums, to historical places, to other countries besides here and pinas. Wooh hehe, wa pa mi nagsugod puhon puhon maabot ra na hinay hinay lang.

My older brother's kids in chicago enjoys visiting different states across america, they write about every state they visit in their journal, they take pictures too. They research before they go, and then evaluate when they get home. But they discipline their kids to be thrifty in every way including clothes. They don't buy expensive brands, they wear generic shoes. Their kids aspire to go to a good college soon. And because they understand that if they're thrifty they can go to a wonderful vacation at the end of the year.

Mura reward ba. So no tantrums "mommy, buy me this" and that. Tingub.

One thing I learned from Oprah is to save money in the bank equivalent to 7 months of your total expenses. It will be your "life-savings". Seven months that includes every monthly expense and a little miscellaneous budget. This is the best preparation for an unexpected rainy day.

When i was young we were already taught the value of money, dapat mag save jud for the future. My parents even made us bank accounts & what we receive during our birthday & christmas we always put it there.
I can say we were better off than some of my classmates at that time financially but i never had everything i wanted, mas nindut pa sila ug mga duwaan.hehe They always buy the things that are needed lang & na dala jud na nako till now, purteng tihika nako.

Na baghu-an lang ko karn na naka graduate nami tanan ako 4 ka siblings kay my parents do spend a lot na.hehe ako ang na guol, but they deserve to enjoy what they earned sad. We can already take care of ourselves naman. And they are both still at the top of thier careers. Good thing though kay even if we are still staying with them, libre lang gihapon.hehe my dad doesnt want us to share sa expenses sa house coz he wants us to save it for our future.
