    @joel_oporto,

    with your current setup, how many softsynths can you run at the same time?

    Wala pa nako makuha ang limit cuz I mix them up with my XP80 keyboard, I've tried mga 30+ tracks in Cubase SX3
    with about ten soft synth instances, plus a few tracks of audio loops without any problems.
    Mas heavier ang audio workload in conjunction with certain plugins like PLPar nga grabe mo kaon ug resources than midi/soft synth.

    For example in vegas with an equivalent of about 30 mono tracks of 24bit-48khz, and a lot of plugins both track and bus, mo ungot2x nag gamay.
    The soft synths mo vary depending kay there are those that are hogs and others na ga-an ra.
    For example edirol stuff like VSC and orchestral are very light. So are the steinberg Vsti like LM-4, and vb-1.
    Ang bug-at nga soft synths are Halion, kontakt, sampletank,GS3, Atmosphere, trilogy, virtual Bassist, virtual guitarist, Mach five, Sonik Synth2. Mo strain sab sila sa imong HD aside from the CPU.

    I think a core 2 duo based system with 1~2GB of system ram will solve your problem

    just by using a singel conroe it can give you the best performance to price ratio than speding a xeon class processor and a dual socket motherboard.. do take note that conroe has more than 2x the raw processing power.. a mere 1.8Ghz conroe can smoke that Xeon based on Intel D9xx

    Never thought of the XEons because they're too expensive. But I was thinking of the pentiium D 805 nga tag 5k ra which would be cheaper to buy 2pcs than one athlon FX 62. So if there is a mobo that can fit 2x805 nga pentium, we could have a quad 805 which potentially could be as fast as a single conroe.
    Its all about cheap possibilities. For example, I might wind up with an extra 3200+ venice that I can use, but not dispose, so if there is a mobo that can accomodate 2 venice 3200+, I would rather get that than a dual core FX.
    I am never first to get anything newest because there are always problems with new stuff and I always enjoy looking at low budget but high performance possibilities.
    If I didin't think that way I would probably have a macpro and not tinker with any of these stuff.
    In the audio field, The mac os and applications are still the most stable and powerful, the PCs are better for running soft synths and samplers. The MAC apps are better integrated to professional equipment.
    Just an example, is the firewire 800 in the old G4. the mac can accomodate different firewire audio interfaces with negligible latencies (6ms) through the AU drivers. In the case of windows, WDM drivers are useless as they will give you latencies of 300 ms so the only way to eliminate that is to use ASIO drivers which work only for one unit at a time. If you have a MOTU and a presonus, in ASIO, your apps can only use one of the two but in OSX you can use both. Now why would you need to have both? Well in the real world, I could have a MOTU and a friend of mine could have a presonus and if we were to record a band we would need both to get 16 simultaneous channels, which by track count, you could already use up 8 for the drums alone.
    Right now I have an M-audio Delta 1010Lt which I bought together with a friends unit. When we recorded their band last June, I just strapped in my SC in his pc to get the 20 inputs we needed. we couldn't do that if we had different audio interfaces.

    Having said that, I still prefer the PC platform for its low-budget possibilities and the possibility to diss the MAC users.
    So I end up thinking about the possibility of a quad 805 for 11K only, hehehe
