    Right on!! I feel you!!!
It's not a real programming language, it's just like click and drag, copy/paste thingy. There are some partly programming involved but not fully pledged.

Haven't tried this... but heard it is an IDE with scripting, and with built-in interpret.

More likely that if you want to use windows API, its either the Powerbuilder itselfs provides some scripts to pass parameters, callbacks, return value or you will code it in another language, build it for powerbuilder, so next time you will use, it will be on via scripting method under powerbuilder's standpoint. (just a guess)

Powerbuilder? its an IDE, the object oriented programming language is called PowerScript.
But they don't market PowerScript. And there are no PowerScript Programmers only Powerbuilder Programmers. It's kind of a misnomer but only Powerbuilder supports PowerScript.

Not if you don't consider Visual Basic as a Programming Language.

Well, lets just gauge it on how fast you can create a client-server application.

A simple window with a grid that has insert, delete and update functionality and ability to use that same grid for print preview and reporting.

But then again, the language to use depends on what kind of applications you are trying to build. You don't use Powerbuilder to create an OS or applications with intense windows API ( although the next version of Powerbuilder can use XAML control templates, skins and customized WPF controls. Less problems with extensibility ). But when you talk about making client-server business applications, Powerbuilder is the way to go.

What kind of client-server app. is this? does it support Domain Driven applications? does powerbuilder provide that too? which is BIG ASSET in .NET an J2EE. how about securing your database used in client-server application?

When you can still develop your application in single solution provided by a vendor like Microsoft then why you have to get another one? additional features is not neccesary to gamble extra cost

Actually, what they are trying to do is attract .NET users to the Powerbuilder IDE. This is as of now an alternative to the Visual Studio IDE. You are actually investing on another technology that provides a faster way to develop windows-based client-server application and be able to convert that same application into a working ASP.NET application with just a click of a button.

You cannot compare Visual Studio especially in building Client-Server applications... likewise if you want to interact with your database, you can see it and investigate what's inside to your database. Visual Studio is far better than any IDE out there... designing UI, coding, and to deployment, even applying role base to interact with the IDE, that separates Form Designer, Programmers, Managers. There’s more… like integration of various MS and 3rd party products… plus they offer a Team Foundation Server which really incomparable to any IDE, I suggest you check about the Features in the Enterprise Editions, and the especially Visual Studio Team System plus the numerous support they have from Intel, Oracle etc.

If they only want to attract in a sense of faster development, People who come is more likely not yet able to see the entire solution that MS can provide, if budgeting does not count, getting an alternative is fine… but I don’t like to switch to PowerBuilder IDE back and forth or Visual Studio, there’s lot more waste of time doing that in the first place.
