a basic question mga master.. unsay dapat unahon pg magplanted aquarium nko mga sir.. wat type of sand ako ibutang or naa bay layerČ or stuff lyk that.. hehe..
dili ko master pero try nako answer sir...
imung unahon kay basics: substrate, lighting, filtration, aquatic plants (kind, availability)
Sa substrate, read this sticky i have made: (from ACE website)
SUBSTRATE
Substrates are also much debated and discussed when pertaining to planted tank aquarium. Unless you are going to use ephiphytes, good substrate is a must. It depends also on what type of plants that you are planning to keep.
Acid test, or muriatic acid test
Aquarist strongly recommend INERT substrate, so that it will not affect the water parameters, especially if you are injecting CO2. CO2 lowers ph and makes water acidic.
Pure a small amount of vinegar, or in my case, a small amout of muriatic acid on the substrate or rock that you are planning to use. If it doesn't fizzle (bubbles) then it's inert. If it bubbles, then avoid using it. Oh, don't forget to wash your substrate well before using it.
Kinds of Substrate
Here in Cebu, gravel, riversand, and clay are readily available.
Gravel comes in different colors and sizes, from 2-3mm to a hefty 3cm or bigger. Actually most aquarist doesn't recommend construction gravel or sand for reasons of impurities, if you just wash it well and do the acid test. If its inert, then you are safe.
Most of the aquarist here in Cebu uses raw clay top with riversand. A good friend of mine, uses raw clay only and has a lot of success on it. Clay, for me is a bit challenging, since it has a high nutrient content, they tend to lean more on algae trouble, but as what they always say, every planted tank is different.
The basic concept is this, first few layers can be clay or floredepot or any high nutrient rich substrate and then top it off with inert substrate like gravel or riversand will do.
Other additives for substrate like Floredepot, pure laterite, raw clay and the likes are also available on the market. They are in high nutrient content and are advised to be covered or topped off with another substrate layer.
Putting in the Substrate
Aquascapers suggest to incline the substrate, like about 2-3 inch at the front and about 4-5 inch thick at the back, make sure that your tank can handle the weight of the substrate, plus the weight of the rocks or driftwoods that you are planning to put into the tank. Safety first! This is to create an illusion that your tank is bigger than its size. It creates depth.
If you want to create hills or slopes, put in stones at the bottom, just enough to create a mound and then cover it again with substrate.
Hope that helps sir.
now im learnin'.. tnx for d info master.. apprec8 it much..
