    ahh, hmp so it's more or less like 7% less than jud sa indicated nga capacity diay niya..

    @insect111
    sir i'm confused with "mas dense man ang pagka-pack sa data sa larger capacity HDDs, it means your read/write head wouldn't need to move that much to access a particular file".. wat if like 80% (or more) of the hardisk is consumed na?

    bout the rpm, 7200 pa ba ang highest as of now? increase in rpm ang solution jud tngale..

    lahi ang buhaton sa defragmenter sa windows og sa kining defraggler?
    and nkabasa sad ko ug article sauna, nga windowsXP w/ SP2 kono ky dli dw kelangan na edefrag, coz defragging it mrag same ra dw gyapn performance myb free up lng space gmay but same performance.. kuyaw no?

    BTW, unsa ng NAS?

    if you think you really need 1.5tb of storage space, by all means get one. just make sure you have a decent power supply that will give it the constant, stable juice it needs.

    here, let me help you decide

    1. if you just want to have 1.5tb of free disk space, get a 1.5tb drive
    2. if youre worried about data corruption, setup a 3x1tb RAID5 array, thatll give you 1.81tb of free space or
    3. setup 2x1.5tb RAID1
    4. 4x640gb RAID10

    i guess what im trying to say is, if you need it, go ahead and BUY it. all drives are susceptible to failure anyway until you setup redundancy of any sort.

    naa jud disadvantage. if maguba, daghan maamong nga files.

    advantage, mas lower power consumption if u compare it to installing many hdd's in one system unit, lesser heat, smaller space sa casing, lesser wirring.

    1.5TB 's design for 5 RAID as tested.

    Disadvantage... guba ang drive damay tanan.

    i think no.1 is the simplest hehe.. sorry sir, d pjd ko suheto anang mga RAID setups ug unsaon man gani na hehe, klase2 sad diay na like RAID1 RAID10 RAID5? and nganu man sa 3x1tb = 1.81tb rman? where's the other half?

    naa pd ko nabasahan sa net b4, maayu pod kono if duha nlng ka 1.5tb, then use the other as mirror sa 1st drive.. mao iyang gbuhat.. -ingani ang RAID?

    unsa pod kha ang PSU wattage nga kelangan sir? mas less ba ang chance of drive failure sa smaller capacity nga drives (say 500 - 750gb) compared to 1-1.5tb?

    solution for fast drives go for SSD mao rana

    post lang ko akoa benchmark kamo na lang judge

    seagate 320gb sata

    western digital 1tb black

    kana akoa seagate 320gb 1 month pa lang na same sa western digital 1tb

    kani lang wd nako mas init gyud compared sa akoa seagate drives

    i encourage pag benchmark sad mo using hd tune pro e google lang makgamit man ka sa full evaluation for 15 days
    better post og bench sa low capacity drives and high capacity drives
    sayang lang na bali ang sata port sa akoa seagate 80gb hdd hehehehe
    as for fragmentation issue i use smart defrag a free open source hdd deframentation tool
    works like a charm for me at par with diskeeper niya libre pa gyud

    wat do u min by SSD ma'am? hehe sori jd ky la ko familiar ana hehe.. and y do u pipol use different or other defragmentation tool instead of the Disk Defragmenter provided by Windows? hehe.. dli diay ni efficient ang sa Windows?

    daghan jud disadvantage brod. number one ang pag back up, and problema sad jud kaayo kun maguba imo hard disk. hmmmm. kasuway na jud ko ana. mahay kaayo ko. kun ang processor sa imo computer low kaayo, let's say intel celeron, or kanang netbook, aw sure na jud na nga hinay especially kun more than 50% na ang solud sa hard drive.

    about sa defragmentation, haskang dugaya no on mahuman labi na kun puno2x ang hard disk nga 1tb. laayon naman gani ko pa defrag sa 320gb, 1tb pa kaha?

    kun mag scan ang virus, kato ra man ang files siyempre, wala labot ang free space.(i think)

    same ta boss im also using smart defrag hehe..free pa jd

    @dmelsie:

    nice lagi ang access time sa imo 1TB nga hdd bro, hehehe, 12ms compared sa 23ms.

    anyway, sa mga ganahan mag benchmark, naa guide ang Intel (Performance Resources - Documents), para apples to apples ang comparison ba. kapoy lang ug follow sa pag-prepare sa system (System Setup), hehehe.

    Example:

    1. Always start with a clean, formatted hard disk...

    @m4a1:

    if 80% sa imo hdd ang occupied na bro? aw depende na cguro na sa layout sa imo files bro, kung fragmented ba or dili ang imo files. according to the Wikipedia, hehehe, mas dugay jud i-access ang file with 1000 fragments than the same file with 100 fragments.

    naa man commercially available nga 10,000rpm and 15,000rpm bro, although 10,000rpm pa ako nakit-an. makatabang man ang pag-increase sa rpm, also refer to the benchmark nga gi-post diri to give you a rough idea as to the difference between two HDDs with different capacities (compare their respective throughputs and access times). pwede pud magpost ka benchmarks nimo bro para makita nato ang trend.

    hehehe, it helps to defrag man jd bro, wala man siguro mawala kung mag defrag ka except sa time nga nagamit pag defrag.

    as to the logic of "defragging" free space, maybe naay impact sa performance sa imo harddisk kung contiguous ang iya free space. haven't tried benchmarking HDDs with different levels of contiguousness (or contiguity) in their free space though.
