For a short minded person that's the limitation of argument(stuck with turbulence issue). Just try to re-read or re-interpret my statement maybe then you get the real meaning of my statement.

I never expected that you have a thought like this. Very funny....are we in the kid forum?

Lastly, I never mentioned any "Turbulence" (it is purely your own out-of-the-world interpretation)

Now let's try to dissect this carefully so that everyone can get a clear grasp of what we have on the table here.

Your post clearly denotes that you, or some other Filipinos are expressing their desire that Subic be the hub of FEDEX again, instead of Guangzhou, as indicated by your constant repetition of the phrase "Babalik ka rin!". Now, we all know that this desire will always be present, especially if you were a former employee of FEDEX, kasi masakit mawalan ng trabaho, at kung "babalik" man ang FedEx sa pinas, eh di masaya nanaman yung mga nalawan ng trabaho diba?

But the point of the matter is, the only reason why this desire is again visible to the public, is because your post basically used this thread as a PLATFORM to AIR that matter, when in fact, the discussion in this thread, prior to your "out of the blue" insertion of the "babalik ka rin" issue, is actually more about the incident itself (the crash, the probable causes of the crash, the fatalities and yes, about turbulence and the incessant windy conditions at Narita) and has absolutely nothing to do with FEDEX hubs. So actually, your post was even more juxtaposed than my own post.

What's even worse is, you're actually "tallying" this isolated incident (i.e. the accident) as "bad luck" points against the MOVE of FedEx to Guangzhou, almost indicating that it would have been better off (the accident might not have happened, perhaps?) if FedEx didn't move the hub from Subic to Guangzhou.

Call me an idiot, but I also understood the post to say that the crash was a result of FedEx's run of "bad lucks" or "dilemmas" that coincided with, or was caused by, their move to Guangzhou. If that was not what he meant, it had to be the way the post was written.

If he meant to say that they had a totally uneventful stay while in Subic, then he must have forgotten that 1999 incident where a FedEx MD-11 overshot Subic's Runway 09 and ended up underwater (the two pilots onboard escaped unharmed). I don't know whether the Filipino employees' vaunted standard of care (according to the post) could have prevented a classic case of an overrun from a hot-and-high approach.

For those who've flown in and out of Subic, it has a relatively short runway (9,000 feet) and is surrounded by mountains. The approach into it is a demanding one, one of which requires a turn close in a la the old Kai Tak Airport in HK, or one that requires the aircraft to fly very close to mountains. The departure procedure is also one that requires maneuvering relatively close to the ground. I don't know for sure whether FedEx could operate their MD-11s at maximum weight off of Subic, but I suspect there were performance penalties involved. Guangzhou does not have these peculiarities. The longer runway (11,000 feet) also allows the planes to carry more. Besides, they do a lot more business in China than in the Philippines, so relocating to Guangzhou made good business sense.

I was in Subic two weeks ago and passed by the airport several times. The large FedEx sorting building was quiet and empty. Really sad. Only months ago it was a beehive of activity.

The MD-11 is, at least by reputation, not the most docile aircraft to land, especially in windy conditions. It has a very high approach speed in comparison to other commercial jetliners. With over 40 knots of gusting winds to deal with, the crew must have had quite a ride down final approach.
