I don't think that promoting immigrants is the best solution if a country has the best education system. I think they should tell their citizens the importance of building up a family. Basic values.
    Please read my statements carefully, I'm not promoting suicide if someone does not end up to be an achiever. The point in my previous post simply emphasizes the importance of parents being the first teachers and the source for motivation for their kids. Teaching and guiding your child is the best family value you can impart.

    It is only by comparing us with the educational systems around the world (not only in Singapore) that we can learn what our mistakes are, and what we need to improve, why it works for other countries and why it cannot work for us. The real problem is that the educational system in our country really needs improvement, and it cannot be attributed to the cost of education alone.

    And this is why I am promoting education in the home, all students who wish to become achievers needs motivation, and it should come first hand from their parents, instead of the yaya, tv, or video games (as most parents nowadays don't have time for their kids).

    hahay.... the problem actually is in circular motion..... walay ayo ang students kay walay ayo ang maestra.... walay ayo ang maestra kay walay ayo ang pang sweldo sa gobyerno..... i believe the teachers before were very much competent, public man or private. Pero ang biggest hit man jud are the public school teachers. Since due to low compensation, they would rather migrate to other countries, so what's the repercussion ani? mga bati ug quality nga teachers ang nabilin.

    If the compensation would be better, then i think, we can avoid letting go our competent professionals to other countries.

    The education in the country needs to be prioritized by the government. Indeed, we have concerns with regard to education and the government should take the responsibility to resolve these areas of concern. However, the problem with the present quality of education does not lie alone with the government. Still, the government needs the cooperation of the people to resolve the matters involving education.

    Take the case of public schools, for example. Right now, we have a lot of students in public schools. Parents who send their children to public schools often complain of the facilities of the school and the fees that being collected by the schools. But when you ask the schools, these concerns were discussed when PTA meetings were held and these parents won't attend. School administrators often ask to volunteer when repairs have to be made in schools. But then again, the parents won't heed to the call. They think it is only the government's responsibility to provide education for their children. If only they can realize that they can contribute for the good education of their children.

    Right now, the government is pursuing for a ladderized education. This seems to be a good alternative of the government so as to enhance both the formal and no-formal education of the people. I've also heard of the government's program on alternative learning system. This program is for those people who weren't able to finish their high school. The DECS is providing an examination early next year so that those who will pass the exam will be given diplomas. With this, they can pursue college degrees if they want to.

    The budget is another area of concern with regard to the quality of education. I am hoping that Congress will pass a higher budget for education next year.

    these discussions can be very useful only if we put them into action.
    have we done anything of what has been talked about?

    Why don't we start solving these problems within our reach? let's hit the road!

    I'm thinking about volunteering at a nearby High School. Work with a teacher in the class.
    Usa sad nga akong nakita wa jud nadisciplina ang mga students ug maau, kay pataka lang ug labay sa ilang basura. bsan gani naa sulod sa classromm ug campus, dayag na kaau pero wa ray paki ang mga teachers. unsa kaha'y inyong ikatambag nga mabuhat nako aside from what I'm about to do?

    @hercules

    Pareha tag gi-huna2x bay. I've already donated 10 computers to a baranggay High School didto sa amo-a some years ago. The problem is balak unta nako mutabang ug i-train ang teachers and develop a curriculum nga pwede magamit gyud sa mga istudyante. But since I'm now in Singapore, ga lisod gyud ko ug pangunay ani. Currently there is another NGO who's looking to initiate computer class training sa mga teachers sa baranggay high schools, maayo unta kung ma contact ni nila. Ang problema man gud sa mga istudyante didtos amo-a sa una is that ignorante pa kaayo sila ug computer, mahadlok bisan mo power-on lang kay basin maguba. Maayo unta ug maayo pud ang pag gaam sa akong gihatag, the last time I was there, gamit ra sa mga istudyante ug browse2x sa internet (since another generous person has sponsored the wireless bro sa smart), ambot lang kun nagamit ba gyud sa research.

    There is also another one we propose - ang community study group, pero layo pa ni, kinahanglan pa ug funding ug planning ug unsa-on pag execute. Even when I'm away from the country now, I still hope na bisan unsa kagamay, naa gihapon koy ma contribute diha sa ato-a. Hopefully unta kitang tanan nga concerned about our education system would do something or contribute something aron naa tay ma-ani. Daghan ta ug ma achieve kung magtinabangay lang unta ta, let's do our part, the government cannot do it all, kaysa mag sige na lang ta ug reklamo sa gobyerno nya walay gibuhat.

    don't forget that people working are paying taxes. that's partly where those allocated budget come from. it would be an insult if you tell people who are working and religiously paying their taxes as not doing anything.

    good for those who can donate computers and those who can still find time to do volunteer works. keep it up.
