PKF and PTA are primarily non profit organizations. however they do impose certain fees on its member clubs for affeliation on an annual basis.members are also required to pay certain fees for ranking exams and tournament fees for tournaments. although they are non profit NGOs, being a membrs of these organizations is really not for free. and this is understandable since it has to support its many activities, including intrtnational events of its elite athletes, upgrading of referees and other tournament officials etc.. unfortunately, these fees have become double edged swords..it may have helped in making the organizations self sustaining but unffortunetly it has also "commercialized" SOME clubs..
Yes, unfortunately the fees the PKF collect has become prohibitive. Imagine charging 300+ to be able to participate in a single event in a PKF sanctioned tournament? Double that if you want to participate in 2 events, triple if 3.
And before that, each individual have to get an annual membership ID...and your club has to get an annual club membership.
Then you have to consider fares, food and lodging to wherever these PKF sanctioned tournaments are held.
(this does not apply only with the PKF. Other umbrella organizations and federations also exist with the same policy on membership and tournament fees)
No wonder some clubs are forced to sell belts. T-shirts just don't get enough revenue, and some talented players just can't get the break they deserve because they got no money.
Just noticed the thread title...it invites flaming...can we request this thread to be closed and posts #18 to 23 moved to some other thread title? Something like "Unified Karate...Possible?"
