naa di'ay murag THC ang eggplant? sus nagpa-swito2x ra na ang PDEA. otherwise, this has been very big news worldwide.
read the first page sa thread.it came from GMA 7.
the dangerous drugs board (DDB) has the power to classify/declassify a substance as dangerous substance or not.PDEA only implements DDB resolutions/regulations under RA 9165.
DDB is the policy making body while PDEA is its implementing arm

Let's analyze this carefully.
Anything can be addictive. Addiction is not the exclusive realm of drugs. People obviously get addicted to something because they're trying to escape something. And thus they will turn to anything they feel is comfortable, to get rid of the ill feeling.
Now, let's analyze the chemical properties of Cannabis (Marijuana). Yes, true, the plant contains psychoactive ingredients. A psychoactive drug or psychotropic substance is a chemical substance that acts primarily upon the central nervous system where it alters brain function, resulting in temporary changes in perception, mood, consciousness and behavior (from Wikipedia). This is the precise reason why people get hooked onto substances like Marijuana--they want to experience the various changes in perception, mood and behavior, to let them escape their problems.
Now, let's analyze the game DOTA. A lot of young people are hooked into this game. For some people, playing this game has effects that mimic temporary changes in perception, mood, consciousness and behavior. Ergo, for some people, DOTA is addictive--for them, DOTA is a drug. This is the precise reason why some people get hooked onto games like DOTA--they want to experience the various changes in perception, mood and behavior, while playing the game, to let them escape their problems.
Now going to the eggplant. A quick check of the nature of the eggplant around the internet or your local library will tell you that it contains absolutely no hallucinogen, but it does contain Nicotine, the eggplant being a distant relative to the tobacco plant. Ergo, if you burn dried eggplant leaves, you will never experience any hallucinogenic effect, but indeed you will feel the effects similar to what a cigarette smoker would feel. Any reported incident of "addiction" towards eggplant leaves is totally psychological (and not physiological) in nature.
Sa ato pa, if someone is perceived as an "eggplant leaf addict", I think that notion is ridiculous, because even if he is indeed addicted to it, the only harmful effect it has on the person is he is filling up his lungs with smoke, and if he keeps on doing it, he'll get lung cancer like smokers do (due to the buildup of tar/trace nicotine, cyano-type substances) If he shows up any signs of "getting high", then I have to say he is either acting or making it up, because the amount of nicotinoid alkaloids in eggplant leaves is ridiculously negligible.
So bottom line, wala'y "ma-addict" sa eggplant leaves, from a chemical/physiological standpoint. It's a ridiculous notion. However, psychological addiction (like DOTA addiction) can still happen.
