i hope these so-called vietnamese restaurants actually feature more vietnamese fare (i really miss bahn mi and bun thit) than, say, thai/malaysian/indonesian cuisine. people who dont know anything could just say "i've had vietnamese food from so and so" when their food isnt even vietnamese. i guess i may have to check out the restaurants mentioned here and see what they have to offer.

my only wish is for my family to just be open to such varied cuisines. they tend to scoff at anything that looks and smells weird--basil is really weird for them and it's a big ingredient in viet cuisines-- and anything spicy

Im a big fanatic when it comes to Vietnamese food. Having been to Vietnam I can personally conclude that there are NO AUTHENTIC Vietnamese restaurants in Cebu. Here are my reviews of the so-called Vietnamese/Thai restaurants here.

Little Saigon Big Bangkok - Their Pho is not as good and their Bahn Mi is rather boring.
Banana Leaf - food sucks! period!
Lemon Grass - Not great as well. They claim they have good rice rolls but its not even close to the ones I've tried in the streets of Vietnam
Vietnamese Restaurant in Crossroads (I cant remember the name of this) - tried their Pho, its bland and doesn't have the ying and yang of flavors.

Now if you want to try authentic Vietnamese recipes, its either you go to Vietnam yourself or cook it yourself (which I prefer to do).

Here are my top 4 Vietnamese that you should try:
    1. Papaya Salad
    2. Pho Ga/Pho Bo
    3. Fresh rice rolls
    4. Banh Mi

of course, those international dishes have to be tailored to filipinos' tastes coz filipinos cant tolerate a lot of the weirdness and/or spiciness of those dishes. so authenticity would be minimal to nil. all im asking is for those restaurants that name themselves as middle eastern/greek/italian/vietnamese/thai/etc would present dishes that really belong to that country and not switch it up with another, similar dish e.g. serving up teriyaki pork instead of bulgogi pork but still naming it bulgogi pork.

saon man gud ning mga pinoy, wa maanad ug halang o mga lami nga saksak sinagol (halang nga aslom nga baho, etc).

a review for a close-to-authentic thai resto in the US by a local/US citizen (not asian by any means) said that the resto reeked of sweaty, dirty socks. mao na, makaagwanta kaha mo ana nya mangayo mog authentic?
