Where is God when life hurts?

He's busy letting us know that Life is a saddist. For once, Life is also cruel to Him.

it is when one is weak that he is the strongest. ..it is in the dark that one appreciates the light. ...but yea, it's just sad that people have to suffer for others to be happy. i mean try looking at this reality--somehow, it is as though there is a balance being kept. You see people living luxurious lives, doing all the merry things there is. And on the other side, you see people in anguish, agony and despair. ..sometimes, you just tend to question the whole equality thing... but heck..maybe it's just me

This is one of the best explanations of why God allows pain and suffering that I have seen:

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his
beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects.When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists." "Why do you say that?" asked t he customer. "Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things." The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt.The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist." "How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber. "I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!" "No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist ; because if they did,there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside." "Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me." "Exactly!" affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! That's what happens when people do not go to Him and don't look to Him for help. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."

I disagree: Evil is not eternal, it has an end.

The above story succeeded to answer it: we could not possibly entirely understand the answer to that question, just as we cannot possibly entirely understand the answer as to why there is something instead of nothing.

To eliminate the possibility of evil is to eliminate free will.

Without free will, we would not have the choice to reject the answer to the problem of evil...or to accept it.

when life hurts i don't blame it to god or anyone. what happens happen, things happen...just accept and learn from it.....

quite an interesting topic u got here....and more interesting answers...for me God does't leave us whenever we feel the hurt and the pain in our lives but he is always there waiting for us to realize his presence but bec. we are too preoccupied with our problems we fail to call on the Lord and leave all our cares with him....I also read somewhere that God allowed pain in our life because he wants us to be closer to him...to call on him...for if we don't have pain in our lives sometimes we forget there is a God
