you can't just use any installer. the installation cd has to match the one
that broke. for example using an oem installation disk with a retail product key
will not work.

but it is ok to borrow someone else's installer as long as you use your own
licensed product key.

try calling microsoft customer service... sometimes you can get a replacement
installer which is at times even free but you shoulder the shipping.
