anyway, in my experience building a gps tracker system from scratch.

gps server nga gi testingan nako ug buhat:
PHP (reactPHP)
Python
Node.JS --- mao ni gi gamit jud nako kay nindot ang socket support using socket.io padong sa client which is HTML/PHP base

Database - MySQL

Client - Laravel Framework

just bought a good gps tracker and study the protocol, though designed for specific protocol akoang GPS server,you can also add new ones.

Kinsay hilig ug GPS tracker diri? Nagkalingaw ko ug butingting sa mga GPS Trackers for cars, motorcycle, scooters, people, pets, etc. I'm trying to come up with a universal GPS Tracking System that will work with different GPS tracker manufacturers, using different communication protocols. Open-source ang base. Naa koy nakit-an old posts diri na related, pero murag wala may kisaw. Not sure kung may mga enthusiasts pa ba ani diri. Knowledge sharing ta diri.

the working platform is not publicly available bai.

creating a gps server is just simple as long as naka baw ka sa concept.
- its just a plain Stream Server, listening to a specific port.
then sa gps tracker side (hardware) - you will configure it for "ip address or domain" sa server ug "port"

it has a server unlike hardware base gps devices for cars that is preloaded with maps nya hardware na ang nag cge plot sa maps.

diba pwede man sad i preload ang map, sa akoa drone... it doesnt have to be connected to internet for the gps telemetry to use google map...

yup sir, preloaded map.. in that case its a standalone system.
Nag wonder sad ko ana kay ubang hardware ana,wala nay simcard.
1. if walay simcard how can it acquire gps telemetry? maybe the chip inside?


but in my use case its totally different.

its like this:
vehicle(truck) with a gps tracker hardware (getting gps telemetry from satellites)
gps tracker (sends the gps telemetry data to the GPS server via internet,sim card needed with data connectivity gsm/3g/4g)
GPS server (receive/store data to database) <--------> Client (Dashboard or main control panel or whatever you call of the company to see their assets location)

server - client communication kay la ra prob bai. Gakulikot ko at the protocol level - how the server handles different gps trackers, from different manufacturers, using different protocols. Nya giunsa pud ni na challenges paghandle sa client side; most especially sa mga devices na may mga I/O support. Mao interested ko motan-aw ug mga customized na system nga gadagan na.

Sakto ka bai. Kung pwede ma-preload ang map ug ang reverse geocoder sa gps tracking device itself, no need na ka internet.

Ang mga baratahon na trackers man gud kay 'receive gps signal - process - send to server' ra gyud iyang capability. Ang uban may I/O support para makaread sa mga sensors ug maka activate sa mga actuators like relays. So mag-need siya internet para masend niya ang iya coordinates and other info i.e., temp, speed, alarms, I/O status, etc. sa server para ma-process further para sa front-end.

Karon, lat/long ra man ang location info na gi-send sa device; ok ra ni cya kung la mag-need ug actual street address ang user. To get the actual street address, need ta ug another server called reverse geocoder server to convert lat/long to actual street address.

It's too late to reply to this thread. I"m confused because the OP isn't looking for the solution. Anyways, I hope this could be helpful for others. This thread will never be old I think. The GPS technologies are under development and improvement so it always be a reason to discuss GPS trackers and tracking systems.
