    FRONT-END (Server-Side Scripting): PHP, ASP, JSP/Servlets
FRONT-END (Client-Side Scripting): HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, AJAX and etc...

BACK-END (Database or DBMS): MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server.

Mao unta dapat tawag ani nila... Web development is not to be considered as PROGRAMMING language but a SCRIPTING language.

backend programming is anything that is used for logical back-end and core computational logic of a website or system, it is a component/feature that indirectly accessed by a user through front-end... php/asp/jsp maybe accessible in via webpage, thats if you use it like that... ive been using php as daemon of a webserver... would you still call that frontend programming?

there is no definite terms on which language is for backend programming, anything can be used in backend programming, even those language that are design for backend, can still be used for front-end... except for those languages that are design mainly for frontend... and dont forget javascript is the main language for NodeJs and nodejs is not jsut used for website... but for it can be use to drive system from the backend... or even run a machine...

programming is basicly scripting because we are creating an instruction for the machine... the right term should be instructions... language is technically a term used by people to determined how they create the machine instructions... coz at the end of the line all codes are compiled to a machine readable 1's and 0's

any language is a front-end as long you use it as front-end, though language has its main purpose, it could either be design for backend but it doesn't limit to be just a backend... with exceptions to language mainly made for front-end...

front-end is anything that interacts with the user
back-end is anything that works behind the front-end

C++, python or any languages used to build system that run back-end can also be a front-end languages if you use as front-end...
