We will remember this season for the following things/reasons:
-The entry of a solid and super- (including the pseudo-) batch of rookies: Slaughter, Ravena, Parks, Tolomia, Escoto, Abdul, Ferrer, Van Opstal, Torres, and a bunch of others who didn't quite get enough exposure. These guys have the potential to be really good players that can make the pro ranks a lot more entertaining to watch.
-Of course, for Ateneo's Four-peat. They join the ranks of the Jawo-UE/Espino-UST/Ritualo-DLSU squads of UAAP lore. Curiously, who do you think should be remembered as the anchor of Ateneo's Four-peat? Tiu won just one, Rabeh and Baclao were there for two but even after they left the team went on to win another one, and this year there was no Buenafe.
-The great year Adamson had. They hit three birds with one stone: They got the twice-to-beat incentive for the first time in their history, doing it in dramatic fashion by snapping the seemingly-perpetual losing streak they had against Ateneo, at the same time averting a season sweep by the Blue Eagles. They fizzled out in the Final Four against FEU but they gave us another great memory to look back on, the Jerick Canada "never say die" game. That was one for the ages, and Canada will be remembered for a long time.
-Also, in contrast to AdU, the (bad) year DLSU had. While their lineup was in fact unproven, it was talent-laden, and they underachieved terribly. This season marked the end of an era where the team had a Pumaren at the helm. This might also be remembered as the (losing) year which motivate(d)/(s) La Salle to amp up their recruitment/their basketball operations back to the way it was during their not-so distant years of glory.
-The year Ray Parks won the MVP award. Parks is a pretty good player, in fairness to him. But a lot of people, myself included, think that the selection process was flawed and that Greg Slaughter should have won it, based on their success and his role on the team. Both players will be fixtures in Philippine basketball for a long time, and we will be looking back at this season to debate on whether or not Parks did rightfully earn the distinction or if indeed it should've been handed to Greg.
