The farmers will likely to get land instead of stocks base from the headline: "SC Junks Stock Option Deal."

Kanang mga stockholders mag.agad ra na sila ug dividend from the company. Dli pud na mandatory ang mu.distribute ug dividend, optional ra na cya for companies.

Meaning, katong farmers na holders of stock pwede to sila walai madawat from HL.

Palace: We'll implement final SC ruling on Luisita

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang said the government will implement the decision of the Supreme Court on Hacienda Luisita if it becomes final and executory but declined to comment on the decision’s substance, saying it has not yet received a copy of the decision.

“Number one, we will defer comment. If it becomes a final decision and there’s no motion for reconsideration further filed by the other parties, whatever will be the final and executory decision, the government, through the Secretary of Agrarian Reform, will be implementing the decision,” Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said.

Lacierda would not comment on the timing of the decision.

He also said that the decision could not be used against the President since he already divested from the Hacienda when he assumed the presidency in 2010.

“We are not going to go into that. This is not going to be an issue between the Supreme Court and the President…He has already divested from Hacienda Luisita so he won’t be placed in a compromising situation.”

SC orders Luisita to distribute land to farmers

    (excerpts)

Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac is owned by the Cojuangco clan, the family of the President's late mother, former President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino.

But Lacierda insisted that the President already divested his shares from the contested land and that Aquino is not aware of the next step of the Cojuangcos on the matter.

The Palace spokesman, meanwhile, believed that the Cojuangcos will respect the decision of the SC if it is already final and executory.

He said the Department of Agrarian Reform is ready to implement whatever decision the SC will make.

According to the decision, the HLI should pay the farm workers P500 million it received from Luisita Realty Inc. for the sale of 200 hectares of land in 1996; P750 million for the sale of the Luisita Industrial Park; and P80,511,500 for the sale of the 80.51-hectare lot for the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway road network.

Church lauds SC decision on Luisita

MANILA, Philippines - The Catholic Church commended the Supreme Court (SC) for allowing the distribution of Hacienda Luisita to farmer-beneficiaries.

In a report from CBCP News, the National Secretariat for Social Action, Justice and Peace (Nassa) of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines said the farmers deserve the land they have worked on copiously for decades now.

“It’s a long awaited decision and a step forward for the Supreme Court to regain its credibility in proving that it can truly stand for the truth and justice,” said Fr. Edu Gariguez, Nassa executive secretary.

“We hope and pray that the Supreme Court will be consistent in rendering judgment not for any political exigencies but to safeguard the interest of justice,” he added.

On Tuesday, the high court ordered the distribution of 4,915.75 hectares to 6,296 farmer-beneficiaries. It modified a decision in July that allowed the beneficiaries to choose between ownership of agricultural land and shares of stock representing the value of the sugar estate.

"In line with our finding that control over agricultural lands must always be in the hands of the farmers, we consider our ruling that the qualified FWBs [farmworker beneficiaries] should be given an option to remain as stockholders of (Hacienda Luisita Inc.), inasmuch as these qualified FWBs will never gain control given the present proportion of (the) shareholdings," says the decision penned by Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr.

    Church: SC's credibility bounced back

MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court's credibility has bounced back following its decision on the Hacienda Luisita case that favored land distribution for the farmers, the Catholic Church said.

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines' social arm, National Secretariat for Social Action (NASSA), praised the SC for giving justice to the Luisita tillers, and for allowing justice to dictate their ruling.

"We celebrate with joy the decision of the SC calling for the distribution of Hacienda Luisita to the farmers, "Fr. Edu Gariguez, Nassa executive secretary said.
