Reggie Miller finally decides.. He's not coming back
After a grueling 2 week workout program, Reggie Miller has finally decided, he's not coming back. According to Miller, he's physically ready for an NBA return but not mentally. Miller has been working out twice a day for 2 days. The body was not the deciding issue, it's the mind.
"That's it,'' he said by telephone from his home in Malibu, Calif. "Physically, I know I could have done it. But mentally, when you do something like this, you've either got to be all in or all out. And I've decided I'm all out."
"Earlier today (Thursday), I was ready to come back. I was going to do it. But then I flew back here, I thought about it, I talked to a lot of people, and honestly, most people told me I should come back. Charles (Barkley), Mark (Jackson), Doug (Collins), they all said I should do it. And when I was back in Indy this week for the Peyton (Manning charity bowling event), people on the streets, they'd tell me to do it."
"But as the day went on, I just realized I wasn't ready mentally to put myself through the grind again.''
Miller called it quits after the 2005 playoffs but had some thoughts of coming out of retirement after Malibu neighbor and friend Kevin Garnett and long time All-Star and fellow shooter Ray Allen ended up with the Celtics.
Whether it's the Celtics or any other team or even the Indiana Pacers, Miller is no longer interested for another shot in the NBA.
Allan Houston.. A probable comeback?
Allan Houston said that he believed his career wasn't over when he retired 2 seasons ago. Now that his heart and body are at the same page, the former New York Knicks captain is ready for another NBA comeback.
"I'm going to give it a shot," said Houston, whose foundation on Sunday will sponsor a Father Knows Best Retreat, a faith-based event in Harlem designed to strengthen father-son and mentor-mentee relationships. "I'm working out every day. I just have to figure out where it's going to be. In my heart I always felt it wasn't over. As I started working out, I felt my body was catching up with my heart."
Playing for the Knicks isn't out of the question according to Houston, but at 36 years old, Houston would like to play for a championship caliber team. Several good teams have contacted Houston, teams like Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit and Miami, but according to the 6'6 guard, a good team doesn't necessarily translate to a championship.
Miami Heat
The Miami Heat signed former Florida State power forward Alexander Johnson to a two year contract worth $1.5M, with the second year at the Heat's option. The 6'9 Johnson, who played for the Memphis Grizzlies last season, will beef up Miami's power forward spot a bit along with Udonis Haslem as Antoine Walker will likely be moved to the small forward spot. The addition of Johnson brings the Heat's roster to a total of 18 players.
Speaking of James Posey, Riley said that they'll try to extend the best offer they can give him. The Heat management and Posey are still talking and everything is still very uncertain. Riley describes Posey's situation as a "victim of a bad market". Posey is trapped in a situation where there's three other small forward free agents in Sasha Pavlovic, Ruben Patterson and Mikael Pietrus.
Regarding the Ron Artest possible trade, Riley confirmed that it was all rumors. Meanwhile, Riley plans to sit Jason Williams out for maybe 12 games during the start of the season even though he's 100% healthy. It is too be sure that Williams will be playing hurt free all through out the season. Williams could be Miami's 3rd option, behind Wade and Shaq. And Gary Payton might no longer return for next season.
For another power forward, Miami eyes veteran PJ Brown. Riley loves to hang Brown's jersey in Miami after his retirement. According to Riley, PJ Brown is one of his favorite players in the league. The only drawback is that Brown's family lives in Louisiana and everybody's in school which makes it a bit hard for Brown to play for the Heat. PJ Brown is still undecided whether to return for another season or finally calling it quits. Other than the Heat, the Phoenix Suns are still interested in Brown's services.
And finally, Riley said that he might give come backing veteran guard Penny Hardaway some major minutes with the Heat. Hardaway was at 235 pounds during the summer and now has dropped to 210 pounds and 10% body fat. He looks like the old Penny Hardaway.
rumors:
Lakers running out of options - is Yi in their sights now?
The Lakers were one of the few teams who worked out Yi before the draft. A source close to the team indicated at the time that they were left very impressed. Although the Lakers may not be willing to offer equal talent, the Bucks appear to have a very short list of suitors which has given them precious little leverage.
Kevin Martin reportedly offered a $55-million extention
The Kings might be close to signing Kevin Martin to a long-term extension. According to two league sources, the Kings have made the fourth-year shooting guard an offer of five years for approximately $55 million. Martin, who is entering the final season of his contract, is expected to be handsomely rewarded for his breakout 2006-07 season as an agreement could be reached this week.
Pacers seem unlikley to deal JO
It’s apparent now, however, that he won’t be unless a team comes up with a better offer than what’s already been presented. Rather than give up O’Neal for less than his market value, the Pacers want to see how he responds to Jim O’Brien’s system. For that matter, they want to see how everyone responds to O’Brien’s system. They can make more accurate evaluations on personnel before the trade deadline in February.
Posey deciding between New Jersey, Cleveland, and Boston?
Posey is still negotiating to return to the Heat but it looks like James Posey found some free-agent offers he likes better than the Heat's. The agent for Posey that the forward was close to signing with another team, which would end Posey's Heat tenure after two seasons and leave the Heat thin at small forward. Agent Mark Bartelstein declined to name the two teams vying to sign Posey but said a return to the Heat wasn't among the likely options.

James Posey to Celtics: Wow... Celtics GM Danny Ainge really wants the team to win now. Posey agreed to terms with Boston to upgrade the Celtics' defensive side for a 2 years worth $7million with a player option on his second year. Posey’s decision is significant, considering that the Celtics initially considered his price to be too high. But dynamics of the market drove Posey’s price down.
Danny Ainge with full-praises right now. The championship-experience of James Posey is going to fit well with the Celtics' core of Big Three. Lingaw na kau ang Celtics fans ani. Great expectations is going to be a great deal this season for Boston.

Sonics: Oklahoma bound? Murag mamalhinay na ang Sonics next season.
"Seattle SuperSonics chairman Clay Bennett told his employees that Oklahoma City is ready to foot the bill for the team to relocate there next season, a source within the organization said.
That information was passed along to Sonics employees during a meeting with Bennett on Wednesday, an employee who attended the meeting told The News Tribune on the condition of anonymity.
However, Bennett clarified those comments late Friday, saying the statements provided by the source from the meeting were a hypothetical example of how a community that is interested in relocating a business would help provide some of the mitigation costs to make that happen.
During the 40-minute meeting Wednesday, the team employee said Bennett provided the group with details of what Oklahoma City is willing to pay for to woo the Sonics:
• Any legal fees involving the team’s fight to break the KeyArena lease.
• Whatever the settlement is to the Seattle Center to buy out the lease.
• All relocation fees the NBA would force the team to pay other owners.
• Costs of physically moving the team’s staff and offices.
• Costs of upgrading the city’s current arena, the Ford Center, to make it NBA-ready.
• Costs of building a new arena, and when it’s finished, keeping the old facility running.
Bennett’s comments Wednesday were in response to a Sonics employee asking what a community such as Oklahoma City has done to prove to Bennett that it wants the Sonics, the source said."
