10 stats & facts before going for 10 straight

Before the Mavericks bid for a 10th consecutive victory when they take the court Tuesday night at the American Airlines Center against the Golden State Warriors, Earl K. Sneed takes a look at 10 interesting stats and facts from the Mavericks' season-high winning streak.

10.) Finding the bottom of the net: During the Mavericks' nine-game winning streak, the offensive production has increased. Though the Mavs average 98.1 points per game on the season, that number has increased to 100.6 in the last nine contests.

9.) Defense wins...: Meanwhile, the team's defensive execution continues to be at an all-time high. The Mavericks rank third in the NBA while surrendering just 92.2 points a night to opponents this season, and the same holds true during the squad's unbeaten stretch.

8.) Unfriendly defense: Along those lines, the Dallas defense is holding opponents to just 43 percent shooting, giving up just 36 percent as a team from 3-point range.

7.) Texas sharpshooters: On the offensive end, the Mavericks (16-4) are shooting lights-out, connecting on nearly 47 percent of their shots from the floor. Power forward Dirk Nowitzki is leading the way, swishing in better than 56 percent of his shots.

6.) Board games: Ranking ninth in the league as a team on the season with their 42.3 rebounds a night, the Mavericks have also begun to clean the glass with regularity during the last nine games. Led by center Tyson Chandler's 10.4 rebounds during this stretch, the Mavs are averaging 49.6 boards, compared to the 47.1 rebounds the opposition has grabbed down.

5.) Balanced scoring: Behind the play of the reigning Western Conference Player of the Week, Nowitzki, and his 25.1-point scoring average in the last nine games, the Mavs have featured four double-figure scorers. Swingmen Caron Butler and Shawn Marion have shared the scoring load and the small forward responsibilities while averaging 14.2 points and 11.4 points, respectively. Sixth man Jason Terry has also posted 13.1 points a night.
Chandler's 9.7 points during that span brings the 7-foot-1 big man just shy of averaging a double-double.

4.) Dropping dimes: With great ball movement, the Mavericks have shared the rock around as well, even upping their assists numbers during the streak after dishing out 24 dimes a night to bring their season average to 23.3, which is sixth-best in the league.

3.) Road warriors: Continuing the road dominance from last season when the Mavericks tied for the best record away from their home arena with a 27-14 mark, the team has gone 5-0 while playing the role of the visitors in the recent nine-game stretch. The Mavs now sit at 8-1 on the road this season, tied with the San Antonio Spurs for the best away records thus far this season.
The team has also gone 4-0 at home to bring their record at the AAC to 8-3.

2.) To be the best, you've got to beat the best: Since the Mavericks' last loss, an 88-83 home defeat to the Chicago Bulls on Nov. 19, the team has beaten five playoff teams from a season ago. Victories against Atlanta, Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Miami and Utah have come by an average of nine points.

1.) What does it all mean?: As of Monday, the Mavericks sit second in both the Southwest Division and Western Conference behind the Spurs (17-3) by one game in the standings. With that said, the Mavericks went into the AT&T Center and snapped the Spurs' 12-game winning streak with a 103-94 win on Nov. 26.
The Mavs are tied with the Boston Celtics (16-4), another team Dallas beat (89-87) at home on Nov. 8, for the second-best record in the entire league.
Note: Now the Mavericks prepare for the start of a six-game home stand beginning Tuesday night at the American Airlines Center against the Golden State Warriors.
