^wah. you guys are attacking each other na...

hmmm... after reading through the thread, i'd have to say that a 1 Billion peso shrine is something ridiculous.

but, if that amount would include a shrine, a huge orphanage, a decent retirement home for the poor, a hospital for the less fortunate, and a TESDA-like training center, why not? as long as that amount actually goes to something, then i'd fully support it.

for me, anything overly lavish is also overly sinful.

You're right. Maybe it's time to close this thread. The threadstarter began it with WRONG INFORMATION and so far REFUSES to find the facts. It has become a thread that attacks Fr. Suarez based on HEARSAY. What's the point then?

The information we have so far clearly shows that the project WILL include such facilities.

Charitable institutions cannot rely on donations ALONE. Many such charities have great difficulties maintaining operations if they do not have stable sources of funds. That is why many of them make investments. The amount invested is not relevant as long as the return is commensurate and timely. There is no prohibition against charitable institutions making investments, unlike whta some others are trying to imply. The Church is allowed to make investments and raise funds through activities other than donations. There is nothing illegal or unethical about that.

He never said that the donations are his property. This is another baseless accusation. Based on HEARSAY.

Still not providing us the facts? Still scared to clarify your vague and misleading question? LAME.

Make judgments based on facts, not HEARSAY (or what you think is "common sense" nonsense).

It seems you have a hard time understanding English, but must you also demonstrate that you cannot engage in a rational discussion?

for me, in my opinion - ( this is not in reply to anybody's post)

still its very expensive... thats 1 billion and even if that 1 BILLION includes other facilities, i cannot support the idea of clustering it in only 1 shire/place... 1 billion is a LOT of money and it can help a lot of people.. i guess if all catholics will contribute.. we can get that amount.. but for me i will support and donate if at least they will not cluster it in just 1 shrine.. share it to different provinces, specially in mindanao where our catholic population is not that high.

let me share 1 example.. i attended a mass before ( iforgot the date) in sto rosario church.. for the 2nd collection, a priest from the province of sulu was asking for donations for their church's renovation.. they only had a population of less than 500 catholics and the parishoners cannot support the renovation expense that is why they were in cebu to ask for donations...

i dont think i need to present some facts for this, just go to church every sunday and listen what your 2nd collection is for..

my point is that 1 billion for the church is not a problem.. but 1 billion for 1 shrine in 1 town/area is not a good idea.. we have a lot of catholics here in the philippines.. people in mindanao and other poor provinces ( catholics or not) they also need help and a fraction of that billion will really help them big time..
