I'm a fanatic of Tolkien also ever since a co-worker told me I would never measure up to reading the book..Thanks to her belittling, I realized Tolkien was worth reading after all...
I've read a lot of books since I read Tolkien's but then again..his books are the only ones I find the pleasure reading over and over again...

My choices are:
Anne Rice for suspense/horror
Dan Brown for controversies
JRR Tolkien and Robert Jordan for the all the all time Fantasy/Fiction.
Too bad for the untimely death of James Oliver Rigney Jr. a.k.a Robert Jordan. His "Wheel of Time" series would have been THE perfect master piece.
